In a significant crackdown, Malaysian police dismantled the 'Geng Yunaa' syndicate involved in child prostitution and trafficking following 'Ops Angel' in the Klang Valley, detaining seven individuals under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012.
This group, operational since early 2024, exploited local and foreign minors via Telegram for sexual services, generating significant illicit profits.
The operation also resulted in the seizure of items linked to the prostitution activities, and efforts continue to apprehend an at-large group member.
The case will proceed with charges under Section 130V(1) of the Penal Code as referred by the Attorney-General's Chambers.
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 22 — Police have crippled ‘Geng Yunaa’, believed to be involved in 17 cases of child prostitution and trafficking for sexual exploitation, following ‘Ops Angel’ in the Klang Valley from Sept 24 to 26.
Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk M. Kumar said seven individuals, aged between 18 and 44, were detained under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (SOSMA) until tomorrow.
He said two other group members were already being held at Kajang Prison and Henry Gurney School in Melaka for offences related to child trafficking and prostitution.
“The group carried out sexual exploitation through prostitution by recruiting local teenagers, foreign nationals and underage children, who were exploited and made victims of prostitution in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur.
“To attract customers, the group used the Telegram application to promote prostitution services, with an estimated 20 to 30 sex workers operating daily,” he said in a statement today.
Kumar said customers were charged between RM200 and RM350, depending on the package and service location. Payments were believed to have been made in cash or through Touch ‘n Go or banking QR codes to prostitution agents linked to the group.
He said the group was believed to have served about 100 customers daily, collecting RM150 from each customer, while the remainder was paid to the individuals being exploited.
Based on these estimates, the group could generate RM15,000 a day, or RM450,000 a month, equivalent to RM5.4 million a year if the activity continued at the same rate.
“This activity is deeply concerning because it not only involves trafficking in human beings for profit but also exploits children, who should be protected from abuse and sexual exploitation.
“More worryingly, the sexual exploitation of underage children can leave long-lasting psychological trauma, damage their emotional, moral and social development, and affect their future,” he said.
Kumar said Geng Yunaa, which had been active since early 2024, comprised 10 members aged between 18 and 44 and was led by a 30-year-old local man.
During the operation, police also seized various items believed to be linked to prostitution activities, including 14 mobile phones, six boxes of contraceptive medication, towels and lubricating gel.
“Checks found that several of those arrested had previous records for various offences, including prostitution, human trafficking, drug distribution and fraud.
“We have also identified another group member who remains at large, and efforts to track down the suspect are ongoing,” he said.
Kumar said the investigation papers had been referred to the Serious Crimes Unit of the Attorney-General’s Chambers, which had agreed that nine members of the group be charged under Section 130V(1) of the Penal Code at the Petaling Jaya Sessions Court tomorrow. — Bernama
