Perikatan Nasional (PN) is actively negotiating with UMNO to finalize seat allocations for the upcoming Melaka state election, seeking to secure one or two additional seats beyond the seven already discussed.

PN deputy chairman, Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, indicated that these discussions are at the main committee level and a final decision is anticipated soon.

The initial seven seats involve four held by DAP and three Malay-majority constituencies.

UMNO considers these as seats to be retained, but PAS is hopeful for further discussions to acquire more allocations.

The final decision will be made by the coalition's top leadership.

KOTA BHARU, Oct 23 — Perikatan Nasional (PN) is still negotiating to finalise seat allocations for the Melaka state election, with the coalition seeking one or two more seats on top of the seven discussed with Umno so far.

PN deputy chairman Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said talks were ongoing, and a final decision, including on any additional seats, was expected soon.

He said the discussions were now at the main committee level and would be finalised at a meeting expected within the next day or two.

“So far it is not final. Although the seven seats mentioned by Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi are seats not won by Barisan Nasional (BN), we are still negotiating for one or two more seats.

“We expect it could be finalised today or tomorrow, God willing,” he told a press conference here today, Sinar Harian reported.

He was speaking after delivering a talk at the Kuliah Pagi Jumaat Perdana, held in conjunction with the Karnival Rakyat 36 Tahun Membangun Bersama Islam at Dataran Warisan, Stadium Sultan Muhammad IV.

Tuan Ibrahim said Umno had so far regarded the seven seats as those to be retained under the arrangement, but PAS hoped further talks would open the way for additional seats.

He said the final decision on seat allocation would be made by the parties’ top leadership through the seat negotiation committee.

On the seven seats under discussion, he said they comprised four seats won by DAP and three Malay-majority constituencies.
