Over a two-week operation at Woodlands and Tuas checkpoints, six drivers were apprehended for providing illegal cross-border ride-hailing services, following tips from the National Private Hire Vehicle Association and the National Taxi Association, according to the Land Transport Authority (LTA).

Since July last year, 260 vehicles have been impounded to enhance commuter safety and protect local drivers' livelihoods.

The LTA cautioned that offenders could face fines, imprisonment, or vehicle forfeiture, and urged the public to report illegal services through their online platform.

The LTA emphasizes booking only licensed, Singapore-registered services for cross-border travel.

SINGAPORE, Oct 24 — Six drivers were caught over a two-week operation at Woodlands and Tuas checkpoints for providing illegal cross-border ride-hailing services.

The operation was the result of regular tip-offs from the National Private Hire Vehicle Association and the National Taxi Association, said the Land Transport Authority (LTA) in a Facebook post on Thursday (October 22).

Senior Minister of State for Transport Sun Xueling revealed that a total of 260 vehicles have been impounded since July last year.

She added that the authorities will continue with such efforts to enhance commuter safety for cross-border travels and to protect the livelihoods of Singapore’s point-to-point transport drivers.

Meanwhile, LTA reminded providers of such illegal services that those caught could face fines of up to S$3,000 (RM9,585.60), jail of up to six months, or both.

Vehicles used could also be forfeited, the authority added.

“For your safety, only book a Singapore-registered cross-border taxi or a licensed cross-border ride-hailing service on Grab for your trips to Johor Bahru, Iskandar Puteri, Forest City, Kulai and Senai,” the authority said.

Those who come across illegal ride-hailing services can report such activities on the LTA’s online form. — AsiaOne
