Diner stunned after stranger allegedly throws food at him, slaps phone away at Sengkang hawker centre: 'What did I do?'

A 19-year-old diner was shocked when an elderly man allegedly started flinging food at him at a hawker centre in Sengkang.

The incident reportedly occurred at Anchorvale Village Hawker Centre on Thursday (Oct 22) at around 7.30pm.

In an Instagram post on Oct 23, user bymyside_twin wrote that he was eating by himself when the elderly man wearing a polo shirt sat down at his table without asking.

He told Stomp that the elderly man "roughly pushed my tray towards me" and stared at him for two minutes.

"Then he started throwing food at me with his chopsticks," the diner recalled.

A video accompanying the post shows the elderly man getting up from the seat opposite the diner after being asked "What do you want?"

"What do you want from me? What did I do?" the diner then questioned.

He then continued to ask the man who he was, and the latter can be heard indistinctly saying that it was the "second time" something had occurred, pointing at the phone with two fingers.

"No, you tell me, what do you want? You come here, you throw food at me," questioned the diner as he stood up to face the man before the man sat back down.

He also panned to show the scraps of food near his bag on the chair he was sitting on.

"Did I do anything to you? If you want to find trouble, you go find somewhere else, alright?" said the diner to the man who had raised his hand towards the camera.

'You don't come at me'

The diner then appeared to instinctively bring his hand up in defence and the man can be seen pressing against his hand.

When the diner pushed the man's hand back in response, the elderly man can be seen stumbling backwards.

"You don't come at me," the diner said, as the man regained his balance and walked towards him again, nodding his head slightly.

The man pointed at the diner's camera again, saying, "Stop pointing that camera at me, ah," before apparently slapping the phone away as the clip ends.

The diner reportedly said that the confrontation continued for another 10 minutes after the video ended and he eventually moved to another table when no bystanders were willing to step forward and help him.

He added that he has made a police report about the incident and has never seen the man before.

'He did the same thing to me'

The video has amassed over 520,000 views on Instagram, with more than 7,000 likes and over 700 comments. The video also has also been shared over 5,800 times and reposted more than 300 times.

Netizens criticised the elderly man's "entitled" behaviour, with one comment highlighting that seniors should be setting a better example for the younger generation and be more empathetic.

"Everyone also going through something in life, not only [the] elderly," wrote the comment.

Some netizens joked that the man's aggression reminded them of famous Chinese martial artist Ip Man and Bruce Lee.

Others also claimed that they recognised the elderly man.

"He did the same thing to me," commented one user, explaining that he was eating at Koufu food court in Sengkang General Hospital then.
