KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 26 — Perikatan Nasional (PN) will initiate disciplinary proceedings against Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) over actions deemed contrary to the coalition’s interests.

PN secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said the decision was made at a PN Supreme Council meeting tonight, in accordance with Article 15 of the coalition’s constitution.

He said the article empowered the PN Supreme Council to take disciplinary action against any member party, individual member, affiliated party or associate member found to have acted against the coalition’s interests.

“The PN Supreme Council has the authority to take disciplinary action against any member party, individual member, affiliated party, or associate member by issuing a warning, suspending, or expelling the party or member concerned if they engage in conduct contrary to PN’s interests.

“PN will take the appropriate steps under the disciplinary proceedings and formally present the charges to the member party concerned, namely Bersatu,” he told a press conference after the meeting.

Takiyuddin said Bersatu would be given sufficient time to respond to the charges before any further action was taken.

Meanwhile, he said PN had decided to use its own logo in the 16th Melaka state election.

“The number of seats and candidates will be determined through a series of meetings to be held, during which these details will be finalised,” he said.

He said the court’s decision on Oct 22 to stay the Registrar of Societies’ (RoS) order suspending PN’s activities had enabled the coalition to resume its activities and functions as usual.
