Police: Missing hikers said they were in good condition when speaking to family on Tuesday

Six hikers feared missing on Gunung Trans Gerah were last in contact with their families on September 1 in good condition.

The group, which includes a family and two guides, began their hike on August 29 and should have exited the area by September 3.

Concerned families filed a police report, prompting a search and rescue operation along the Perak trail.

GERIK, Sept 7 —Police said the six hikers, who are feared missing on Gunung Trans Gerah in Kelantan, were in good condition when they last contacted their family members on Tuesday (Sept 1), before continuing their journey towards Perak.

District police chief Supt Abdul Samad Othman said the group last contacted their family at 7.47 am that day.

“The group began their hike on Aug 29 from the Pos Dakoh area in Gua Musang, Kelantan, and were expected to make their way out via Pos Kemar, Perak on Sept 3.

“However, as of Sept 6 (yesterday), their family members had yet to hear from them and subsequently lodged a police report out of concern for their safety,” he said in a statement today.

He said following the report, the police, together with the relevant agencies, had coordinated a search and rescue (SAR) operation to locate the group along the trail on the Perak side.
