Young woman dies after drink driver's car crashes into her along Amoy Street

A 25-year-old woman has died in hospital after a car crashed into her and a 35-year-old man on Oct 17.

The pair, who were seated outside a bar along Amoy Street, were taken conscious to Singapore General Hospital after a Mercedes car hit them at about 12.45am.

According to Stomp, the woman was recently promoted to restaurant manager, and was waiting for her Grab ride home with her manager when she was struck by the car.

Police told AsiaOne that a 37-year-old female car driver was arrested for drink driving .

Two other cars were also involved in the accident, which saw the Mercedes crashing through a renovation hoarding outside Hutaoli, a music restaurant bar.

The 39-year-old male driver of another car sustained minor injuries but declined to be taken to hospital.

In their latest statement on Monday (Oct 26) evening, the police said that the 25-year-old woman has died.

They did not indicate when she died, but stated that the alleged drink driver will now be investigated for the offence of careless driving causing death under the influence of drink.

Parliament on Aug 4 passed the Road Traffic (Miscellaneous Amendment) Bill .

Under the amendment, the maximum penalties for dangerous and careless driving causing grievous hurt have been raised.

It also introduced additional jail terms that serious offenders, who drove under the influence of alcohol or drugs, may be reliable for.

8月4日，议会通过了《道路交通（杂项修正）法案》。

根据该修正案，危险驾驶和疏忽驾驶造成严重伤害的最高处罚力度有所提高。

它还引入了额外的监禁刑罚，对于酒后或吸毒后驾驶的严重违法者，可能需要执行这些刑罚。
