More than $14,000 has been raised for local content creator Suresh Vanaz Purushothaman, who is currently recovering from a nterior cruciate ligament ( ACL) reconstruction surgery.

Suresh, 47, had injured both his knees in December 2025 but was focused on caring for his late younger brother Gunaseelan, according to crowdfunding platform The Give Collective.

Gunaseelan, who had cerebral palsy, died at the age of 42 on Aug 29. Suresh had been his sole caregiver since 2009.

Speaking to The Give Collective in a video posted on Oct 20, Suresh reminisced playing with his brother during their childhood and showed off a wall of collectibles purchased "purely because [Gunaseelan] likes all this".

Funeral expenses for Gunaseelan totalled about $19,000, Suresh shared, adding that he was also on medical leave ahead of his knee operation.

The Give Collective said Suresh underwent surgery soon after their first interview.

When they visited him again, Suresh said he was experiencing both physical and emotional pain.

"It's very painful without my brother," he said.

"I was holding on to his photo and when I put it to my chest, all I prayed to God was, 'Please bring me with him.' I can't live without him."

The Give Collective has started a campaign for Suresh's recovery over the next four months.

Donors have raised more than $14,300 of the $30,000 goal at the time of writing.

According to the campaign page, the funds will help Suresh with essential living expenses, outstanding medical and household bills, and other costs.

According to the Singapore General Hospital, ACL reconstruction patients have to undergo early post-operative management and strengthening rehabilitation for the first three months after surgery.

After starting functional rehabilitation from the fourth month, one can gradually return to sports between six to nine months post-surgery.

"These funds will help ease the financial pressure on Suresh while he focuses on healing and getting back on his feet," The Give Collective said.

"For a lifetime, Suresh was there for his brother. Now, let's be there for Suresh.

"Thank you for helping Suresh through this difficult chapter and reminding him that he doesn't have to face it alone."
