SEREMBAN, Oct 27 — Police have arrested three local men to assist in investigations into a fatal accident involving a firefighter at KM2.6 of Jalan Pantai, Port Dickson, this morning.

Port Dickson police chief, Supt Ahmad Afiq Mohd Adnan, said that the three men, aged 31 and 32, comprised the driver of a Toyota Vios and two friends, who allegedly conspired to hide the car in Puchong, Selangor, and remove its registration number plates.

He said that at about 8.05 am, the victim, a 46-year-old man riding a Honda ADV160 motorcycle, and the car were believed to have been travelling from Telok Kemang towards Port Dickson.

“Upon reaching the scene, the car is believed to have made a U-turn, causing the motorcyclist, who was behind it, to try to avoid the vehicle before crashing into its right side and falling onto the opposite lane.

“The victim sustained serious injuries and was pronounced dead while receiving treatment at the Emergency Ward of Port Dickson Hospital, while the car driver fled the scene after the accident,” he said in a statement here last night.

Ahmad Afiq added that the car driver was subsequently arrested at the Serdang police headquarters at about 6.30 pm today, while his two friends were arrested in Puchong.

Checks found that the driver did not have a valid driving licence, while the vehicle’s road tax and insurance had expired.

He said that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, and an application for a remand order against all three men will be made at the Port Dickson Court today. — Bernama
