A woman said she stepped in and swapped seats with a man who kept leaning on the girl sitting beside him on a bus, after noticing him bumping into her “many times”.

In a Threads post on Oct 25, user @gentletours.co recounted the incident, saying she took a detour to keep the girl safe and even swapped seats with the man so she could “talk to her friend’s daughter”.

‘I hope someone will be that kaypoh auntie’

Gentletours.co said the “signs were all there”, claiming the man leaned on the girl unnecessarily and bumped into her accidentally, “just too many times”.

“Girl was just squashed up against the window, texting on her phone,” she wrote.

She shared a video showing a man in a blue shirt seated in front of her on the bus. He appears to lean towards the girl sitting beside him before shifting back upright.

Gentletours.co also attached a screenshot of a message translated into Chinese using Google Translate, which she presumably showed the girl.

It read: “Are you ok? The guy next to you was being creepy.”

“I hope that if my students, niece or kid get caught in a situation like that, someone will be that kaypoh auntie,” she said.

In the comments, gentletours.co said the incident took place on bus service 145, which was travelling from Balestier towards City Hall.

Stomp has reached out to gentletours.co for comment.

In response to Stomp’s queries, SBS Transit spokesperson Grace Wu said they are committed to providing safe and secure rides for passengers and making every trip a pleasant one.

Passengers who encounter or witness such behaviour can alert the bus captains, who are trained to handle incidents for assistance, she said.

“We urge all passengers to respect one another’s personal space and be respectful of fellow commuters. Any behaviour that makes others feel uncomfortable or unsafe is unacceptable,” Wu stated.

She added that everyone should be able to enjoy a safe and comfortable ride without feeling intimidated or harassed.

‘Thanks for being a protective stranger’: Netizens

The post amassed more than 407,000 views and 130 comments, with netizens commending gentletours.co for stepping in.

“Thanks for doing this and being a protective stranger to the girl,” a user wrote.

Many others shared similar experiences on public transport, thanking her for speaking up.

In response to a comment highlighting how frequently such encounters happen, gentletours.co described it as a “nightmare” for many girls who take public transport daily.

She also recounted an incident in which a man leaned on her, prompting her to poke him in the stomach with a ballpoint pen.

“I aspire to be a kaypoh aunty too one day,” another commenter said.
