BUKIT MERTAJAM, Oct 27 — Police detained four Myanmar boys to assist in investigations into a criminal intimidation case involving an elderly woman in Taman Sri Rambai here, an incident which has also gone viral on social media.

Seberang Perai Tengah (SPT) police chief ACP Nik Aminuddin Raja Abdullah said all four children, aged between nine and 12, were detained in separate raids around the area following a police report lodged by the 71-year-old victim yesterday.

“Based on initial investigations, the incident occurred at 6pm on October 22 when the victim reprimanded a group of children playing at a playground near her house for making noise.

“However, the reprimand was ignored before the group allegedly threw stones and an iron rod towards the victim. Although neither object hit the senior citizen, it caused her to feel fearful, leading her to lodge a police report,” he said in a statement today.

Nik Aminuddin added that police seized several exhibits believed to be connected to the incident, and all four suspects have been remanded for four days until October 30 to facilitate investigations.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation, Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955.

Earlier, a video showing a group of children, believed to be Myanmar refugees, throwing objects at an elderly woman in Taman Sri Rambai went viral on social media. The incident caused concern among local residents. — Bernama
