Singapore's second-largest lender OCBC has placed third globally in the latest World's 1,000 Strongest Banks ranking by The Asian Banker (TAB) published on Tuesday (Oct 27).

The accolade marks the first time a Singaporean bank clinched a top three spot in the world since TAB's ranking was introduced in 2023.

OCBC has also been named the strongest bank in Singapore and Asia Pacific in the same list.

The TAB Global 1,000 World's Largest and Strongest Bank ranking provides an annual assessment of the banking industry’s financial and business performance.

It evaluates banks across seven dimensions: sovereign risk, scale, balance sheet growth, risk profile, profitability, asset quality and liquidity.

Explaining the results, TAB Insights research director Christian Kapfer pointed out that OCBC's diversified earnings, sound asset quality and strong capital position distinguished it from many of its regional peers.

"Its ability to combine profitability with prudent balance sheet management has been an important factor in its financial strength," Kapfer said.

TAB's publication also highlighted the Singaporean lender's growth in wealth management, insurance and trading in 2025, which lifted its operating income to a record $14.6 billion.

It is also the top performer in the Straits Times Index (STI) this year, with its share price up by 48.6 per cent year-to-date as of Oct 23.

OCBC group CEO Tan Teck Long said its latest accolade reflects the resilience of the OCBC franchise, adding that such resilience is built on customer trust that endures over generations.

"We will continue to build on this strong foundation to create lasting value for our customers, communities and shareholders.”

The recognition comes after OCBC took the top spot among global banks in the inaugural World’s Top Performing Banks ranking developed by Forbes and Statista this September.

JPMorgan Chase and Saudi National Bank took the top and second spots in the TAB ranking.

DBS, Southeast Asia's and Singapore's largest lender by assets, placed 23rd on the list. Meanwhile, United Overseas Bank (UOB) ranked 187.
