PM says Budget 2027 reinforces Islam, criticises ‘hypocrite’ accusation

PUTRAJAYA, Oct 28 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has stressed that Budget 2027 was formulated to continue promoting Islam, including through specific measures to strengthen pondok religious schools nationwide.

Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, said the government had sought the views of Islamic scholars and religious teachers in drawing up the budget to ensure that the development needs of Islam received due attention.

He therefore criticised certain quarters for labelling the leader behind the Madani Government’s Budget 2027 as a “hypocrite”.

“When formulating Budget 2027, we asked what more could be done for Islam and what else could be added. In the past, we neglected pondok institutions and pesantren (Islamic boarding schools), but now we are rebuilding them.

“In the past, we sidelined the syeikhs, religious teachers and tuan-tuan guru (respected religious scholars), but now we invite them and seek their views,” he said when speaking at the Majlis Ilmu MADANI programme at Kompleks Seri Perdana here today, which featured renowned Indonesian preacher Ustaz Dr Abdul Somad Batubara as a guest.

Also present were the Prime Minister’s wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail; Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan; and Weststar Group founder and managing director Tan Sri Dr Syed Azman Syed Ibrahim.

Anwar admitted that he was somewhat angered by the matter but said he remained patient, describing it as a systemic problem.

“When the matter was debated in Parliament, he called the leader a hypocrite and the budget hypocritical. If I were to ask Ustaz Abdul Somad, he would say, ‘Be patient, Pak.’ My heart was boiling, but I remained patient and did not respond.

“I just want to say that this is merely symptomatic of the real problem … those who profess Islam do not help or set a good example in terms of morals, personal conduct, moderation and tolerance,” he said.

Previously, Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul had directed Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan (PN-Kota Bharu) to withdraw the word “hypocrite” that he had used during the debate.

The Prime Minister also expressed his appreciation to Abdul Somad for sharing his knowledge at the programme, adding that the preacher’s advice was always taken seriously in efforts to make Malaysia a better country.

“Ustaz Abdul Somad is now a prominent figure, but he is also controversial in some respects because he is bold in his criticism, which can sometimes be sharp.

“His criticism reaches all those in power, including in Malaysia. However, based on our experience in matters of governance and procedures, we welcome such criticism and try to make improvements,” he said.

“在制定2027年预算时，我们思考还能为伊斯兰教做些什么，还能增加些什么。过去，我们忽视了伊斯兰学校和寄宿学校，但现在我们正在重建它们。”

“过去，我们把谢赫、宗教教师和受人尊敬的宗教学者边缘化，但现在我们邀请他们并征求他们的意见，”他今天在斯里柏达纳综合大楼举行的 Majlis Ilmu MADANI 活动上发表讲话时说道。该活动邀请了著名的印尼传教士 Ustaz Dr Abdul Somad Batubara 作为嘉宾。

“我只想说，这只是真正问题的表象……那些自称信奉伊斯兰教的人在道德、个人行为、中庸之道和宽容方面并没有起到帮助作用，也没有树立好榜样，”他说。

此前，下议院议长丹斯里佐哈里指示拿督斯里达基尤丁哈山（PN-哥打巴鲁）撤回他在辩论中使用的“伪君子”一词。

首相还对阿卜杜勒·索马德在节目中分享知识表示感谢，并补充说，在努力使马来西亚成为一个更好的国家的过程中，这位传教士的建议总是会被认真对待。

“乌斯塔兹·阿卜杜勒·索马德现在是一位杰出人物，但他在某些方面也颇具争议，因为他的批评大胆而尖锐。

他说：“他的批评影响了所有当权者，包括马来西亚的当权者。然而，根据我们在治理和程序方面的经验，我们欢迎这样的批评，并努力改进。”
