KOTA KINABALU, Oct 29 — Sabah is pursuing various initiatives to achieve a gross domestic product (GDP) target of RM100 billion by 2030 under its Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) development agenda, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.

He said the state government was focusing on implementing industrial development plans, attracting investments and providing essential infrastructure, including a stable, reliable and affordable energy supply.

“When investors consider building a factory or conducting large-scale operations in Sabah, they need to know whether we can provide an adequate supply of electricity and gas, what the costs will be, and when such supplies can be made available,” he said.

The text of his speech was read out by Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister Datuk Ceasar Mandela Malakun at the opening of the Sabah Energy Corporation (SEC) Annual Planning Conference here today.

Hajiji said Sabah’s gas supply had the potential to increase from approximately 700 million standard cubic feet per day to 1,350 million standard cubic feet per day by 2030, based on the Long-Term Gas Supply and Transmission Plan presented to the state government last September.

He added that the proposed development of gas resources along Sabah’s east coast would create new opportunities for power generation and industrial growth in the region.

Hajiji also highlighted progress in strengthening Sabah’s participation in the energy sector through the Commercial Collaboration Agreement (CCA) with Petronas, signed in December 2021.

He commended SEC’s financial performance and its efforts to expand operations through the Progressive Energy Transformation Agenda (PETA 2030).

He also called on government-linked companies (GLCs) and state agencies to enhance cooperation to accelerate project implementation and prevent investment opportunities from being lost. — Bernama
