Fatal Tampines crash: Driver charged with fleeing scene where 2 people died

The accident at around 10.35pm on Oct 29 involved a blue Audi that ploughed through the road divider and slammed into a motorcycle and another car along Tampines Avenue 12.

SINGAPORE - The driver who fled the scene of the Tampines crash that killed a motorcyclist and his pregnant wife was charged on Oct 31.

Muhammad Zulfiqar Abdul Aziz, 30, was handed nine charges for :

Dangerous driving causing death

Dangerous driving causing hurt

Driving under disqualification

Failing to stop after an accident

Failing to render assistance after an accident

Using a motor vehicle without insurance coverage

Using a deregistered vehicle

Using a vehicle without a licence

Exhibiting a false licence plate

The motorcyclist and his wife who was riding pillion , both 24 , died after being taken to the hospital.

On Oct 31, Zulfiqar appeared in court via video link. He wore a white polo shirt, and sported golden highlights in his hair, a goatee and stretched earlobes. His left arm appeared to be heavily tattooed.

He looked down as the charges were read to him in Malay.

The victims were buried next to each other at Choa Chu Kang Muslim Cemetery on Oct 30.

Family members told The Straits Times at their burial that the couple were expecting a second child. They leave behind a six-year-old son.

A gag order was issued on the identities of the victims because of their son.

The 25-year-old driver of the other car was also taken to hospital but was conscious.

Police arrested Zulfiqar and the 29-year-old woman he was with on Oct 30 around West Coast Road.

The woman has not been charged and investigations are ongoing.

When the prosecution urged the court to deny bail for Zulfiqar as he was a flight risk, he asked why this was so, saying this was only his first court mention and he did not run away.

The prosecution said he did run away from the scene, and he was not offered bail after the judge found he posed a flight risk.

His case will be heard again on Nov 27.

Those convicted of dangerous driving causing death can be jailed for up to eight years, and those convicted of using a deregistered vehicle can be jailed for up to two years and fined $20,000.

There were 40 cases involving deregistered vehicles in 2022, and 39 in 2023. This jumped to 75 in 2024 and 245 in 2025. In the first five months of 2026, the Land Transport Authority investigated 122 cases.

The police said using deregistered vehicles and driving while disqualified is reckless and irresponsible, and they will not hesitate to take firm action against those who endanger other road users.

Singapore’s roads are now at their most dangerous in years, with traffic deaths hitting a 10-year high of 149 in 2025 compared with 141 in 2016.

The number of people getting injured also increased from 9,342 in 2024, to 9,955 in 2025.

新加坡——10月31日，肇事逃逸的司机被控告，该司机在淡滨尼造成一名摩托车手及其怀孕妻子死亡的车祸中丧生。

使用已注销车辆

无证驾驶车辆

摩托车驾驶员和坐在后座的妻子（两人均为 24 岁）被送往医院后不治身亡。

10月31日，祖尔菲卡尔通过视频连线出庭。他身穿白色polo衫，头发挑染了金色，留着山羊胡，耳垂拉长。他的左臂似乎纹满了纹身。

当法官用马来语宣读指控时，他低下了头。

10月30日，两名遇难者被埋葬在蔡厝港穆斯林公墓，彼此相邻。

这对夫妇的家人在葬礼上告诉《海峡时报》，他们正期待着第二个孩子的降生。他们身后留下了一个六岁的儿子。

由于受害者是他们的儿子，因此下达了禁止透露受害者身份的禁令。

另一辆车的25岁司机也被送往医院，但当时意识清醒。

10月30日，警方在西海岸路附近逮捕了祖尔菲卡尔和与他在一起的29岁女子。

该女子尚未被起诉，调查仍在进行中。

当检方敦促法庭拒绝祖尔菲卡尔的保释申请，因为他有潜逃风险时，他反问为什么会这样，说这只是他第一次出庭，而且他并没有逃跑。

检方称他逃离了现场，法官认为他有潜逃风险，因此没有准予保释。

他的案件将于11月27日再次开庭审理。

因危险驾驶致人死亡而被定罪者，最高可判处八年监禁；因使用注销车辆而被定罪者，最高可判处两年监禁并处罚款 20,000 美元。

2022年有40起涉及注销车辆的案件，2023年有39起。2024年跃升至75起，2025年跃升至245起。2026年的前五个月，陆路交通管理局调查了122起案件。

警方表示，使用注销车辆和无证驾驶是鲁莽和不负责任的行为，对于危害其他道路使用者的行为，警方将毫不犹豫地采取严厉措施。

新加坡的道路目前处于多年来最危险的时期，预计 2025 年交通事故死亡人数将达到 10 年来的最高值 149 人，而 2016 年为 141 人。
