Thailand's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sihasak Phuangketkeow, concluded a two-day working visit to Malaysia, where he engaged in discussions with Malaysian Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.

The talks focused on enhancing coordination between the two countries in areas of security, border development, and smuggling prevention, including plans for constructing border fencing.

Malaysia reiterated its commitment to facilitating peace dialogues in Southern Thailand, while both nations acknowledged the growing economic ties, with bilateral trade exhibiting significant growth.

SEPANG, Sept 8 — Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sihasak Phuangketkeow departed for home after concluding his two-day working visit to Malaysia.

Chief of Ceremony at the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Rozainor Ramli was present at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 1, here, to send off Sihasak who departed on a Bangkok bound commercial flight at 8.55PM last night.

He arrived in Malaysia on Sunday for the visit, which formed part of the regular exchange of high-level visits between the two neighbouring Asean states.

During his visit, Sihasak met Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, with both sides discussing ways to streamline coordination among agencies from both countries, particularly on security and development in border areas as well as smuggling prevention.

Both sides also discussed a proposal to coordinate the construction of border fencing, with Thailand planning to build fences in areas Malaysia has yet to fence to avoid duplication.

On the situation in Southern Thailand, Malaysia, which has been entrusted with facilitating the peace dialogue process, would continue to assist efforts to advance the negotiations towards a more positive outcome.

In 2025, Thailand was the sixth largest trading partner globally and the second largest among Asean Member States, with total trade amounting to RM118.57 billion (US$27.73 billion).

From January to July 2026, bilateral trade between the two countries reached RM85.01 billion (US$21.13 billion), compared with RM66.95 billion (US$16.64 billion) during the corresponding period in 2025, reflecting the continued strong growth and potential of economic ties between the two countries. — Bernama

他于周日抵达马来西亚进行访问，此次访问是这两个邻近的东盟国家之间定期高层互访的一部分。

访问期间，西哈萨克会见了外交部长拿督斯里穆罕默德·哈桑，双方讨论了如何简化两国机构之间的协调，尤其是在边境地区的安全和发展以及打击走私方面。

双方还讨论了协调边境围栏建设的提议，泰国计划在马来西亚尚未修建围栏的地区修建围栏，以避免重复建设。
