SEPANG, Nov 1 — The possibility of bringing Formula 1 (F1) racing back to Malaysia must be seriously evaluated, while the Sepang International Circuit (SIC) must be strengthened as a strategic national asset, says Deputy Housing and Local Government Minister Aiman Athirah Sabu.

Aiman Athirah, who is also Sepang MP, said this was to ensure that every investment generated economic returns, created job opportunities and brought tangible benefits to the people.

“In this regard, I hope Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will give due consideration to the future of SIC as a strategic national asset with international value, geographical advantages and huge potential to stimulate economic growth.

“SIC is not merely a racing circuit. It is a strategic national asset, a tourism catalyst, an investment platform and Malaysia’s gateway to remaining competitive in the global motorsports industry,” she said in a statement on her Facebook page today.

Meanwhile, Aiman Athirah said the decision to extend Malaysia’s hosting rights for the MotoGP until 2031 was an important step in maintaining the country’s position on the international motorsports calendar.

She said SIC needed to diversify its revenue streams through corporate sponsorships, commercial rights, hospitality packages, facility rentals, additional events and strategic partnerships with automotive manufacturers and international industry partners.

“I welcome SIC’s efforts to prepare a feasibility study on bringing F1 back to Malaysia, which is reportedly scheduled to be presented to the Cabinet in November.

“However, the decision to bring F1 back must not be based solely on nostalgia, prestige or spectator attendance. It must be guided by a thorough economic study, taking into account hosting fees, operational commitments, sponsorships, commercial revenue and net returns to the country,” she said.

She also proposed that the government consider several hosting models, including annual races if proven financially and commercially viable, or periodic races if such an approach offered a more optimal cost-benefit ratio.

She said SIC should also be developed into a year-round motorsports economic hub rather than relying solely on a few major racing weekends each year to generate revenue.

“Among the areas worth exploring are international motorsports events, vehicle testing and development by automotive manufacturers, technical training programmes, industry conferences, corporate activities and facility rentals for various commercial purposes.

“More importantly, SIC should be given a greater role in developing local talent and the domestic industry through collaborations with universities, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions and automotive industry players,” she said. — Bernama

身为雪邦国会议员的艾曼·阿提拉表示，这样做是为了确保每一项投资都能产生经济回报，创造就业机会，并为人民带来切实的好处。

“在这方面，我希望首相拿督斯里安华·易卜拉欣能够充分考虑新加坡工业公司（SIC）的未来，将其视为具有国际价值、地理优势和巨大经济增长潜力的战略性国家资产。

“雪邦国际赛车场不仅仅是一个赛车场。它是一项战略性国家资产，一个旅游业催化剂，一个投资平台，也是马来西亚在全球赛车运动产业中保持竞争力的门户，”她今天在其脸书页面上发表声明说。

与此同时，艾曼·阿提拉表示，将马来西亚举办 MotoGP 赛事的权利延长至 2031 年的决定，是维持该国在国际赛车运动日历上地位的重要一步。

她表示，SIC需要通过企业赞助、商业权益、招待套餐、场地租赁、额外活动以及与汽车制造商和国际行业合作伙伴的战略合作来实现收入来源多元化。

“我欢迎沙特国际赛车场（SIC）为将F1赛事带回马来西亚所做的可行性研究，据报道该研究计划于11月提交内阁。”

“然而，F1回归的决定绝不能仅仅基于怀旧情怀、声望或观众人数。它必须以全面的经济研究为指导，考虑到举办费用、运营投入、赞助、商业收入以及对国家的净收益，”她说道。

她还建议政府考虑几种举办模式，包括如果经济和商业上可行，可以举办年度比赛；或者如果这种方法能提供更优的成本效益比，可以举办定期比赛。
