It may have seemed like a close shave, but the dramatic landing attempt was all part of standard safety procedures for Singapore Airlines (SIA) pilots.

SIA pilots of flight SQ213 had to approach the runway twice and performed a "go-around" before safely land a plane amid strong winds in Perth, according to a Facebook video by user Chris Perry last Saturday (Oct 31).

The video has garnered over 2.6 million views, 7,300 likes and 1,800 comments as of Monday morning.

In the video, an SIA plane can be seen approaching the runway at Perth Airport.

However, the aircraft is seen abruptly banking to one side, bringing its right wing seemingly close to the ground.

The plane then pulls upward, climbs away from the asphalt and returns to the air before making another landing attempt.

"High winds at Perth caused my sisters flight to have to go round again," Perry wrote in his post. "Thankfully the second attempt was a success."

In the comments section, many users pointed out that the wing was quite close to the ground and that the situation looked dangerous.

"Inches away from death, literally," said one. "That was a very calm and skilled pilot."

"That wing looks so close to the ground! Far out," another commented.

Some, however, felt that the video made the incident seem far more dangerous than the situation actually was.

"Pilot checking in. That was pretty sketchy, but not that dangerous," a user claimed.

"That must have been pretty frightening for many on board. But a go-around is a standard safety procedure and happens regularly at airports around the world," another stated, adding that SIA only chooses "the best of the best".

A go-around is a standard procedure in which pilots discontinue an approach or landing and climb away before attempting another landing.

Many users also praised the pilots for their skill in operating the aircraft.

"These pilots are highly trained. They know when to put the kite down or do a go-around for safety.

Another said: "Well done to the pilots, hope your sister wasn't too shaken up."

Responding to queries from AsiaOne, an SIA spokesperson said that SQ213 experienced strong winds on approach into Perth International Airport last Saturday.

"As a result, the pilots decided to conduct a go-around," the spokesperson said. "The Airbus A350-900 aircraft landed safely at 1230hrs (local time) and taxied to the gate."

SIA also stressed that the safety of customers and crew is their top priority.
