KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 2 — Police are investigating allegations that several lawyers harassed a forensic specialist in connection with the death of detainee Noorizwan Zulkefly.

Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Datuk M. Kumar said police had received a report from the doctor and were investigating the case under Sections 506, 186 and 189 of the Penal Code.

“The doctor is a civil servant and a police report has been lodged by her. Investigations are ongoing, and police are recording statements from the parties concerned,” he told a press conference at Bukit Aman here today.

He said police had so far recorded statements from the doctor and three lawyers linked to the case, while statements from Noorizwan’s family members were being taken.

On the investigation into Noorizwan’s death, Kumar said the investigation papers would be referred to the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) on Wednesday for further action.

He had earlier said that the investigation into Noorizwan’s death had been taken over by the Prosecution/Legal Division (D5) of Bukit Aman CID and was being conducted under Section 331 of the Penal Code.

The classification followed a statement recorded from a forensic medicine consultant at Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz, which indicated external injuries on several parts of the deceased’s body.

The pattern of injuries was consistent with blunt-force trauma and not self-inflicted.

However, the full post-mortem report confirming the cause of death has yet to be received, and the police are awaiting further information. — Bernama
