A Singaporean couple injured in a motorcycle accident on Johor's North-South Expressway found help from a group of Malaysians who stopped to shelter them from heavy rain and assist them after the crash.

Among them was Joan Ng, whom China Press identified as the National Vision Party's Kluang division chief. She was travelling home after helping with election campaigning in Melaka when she came across the scene.

Spotting several motorists using small umbrellas to shield the injured couple from the downpour, Ng shared in a Facebook post on Sunday (Nov 1) that she alighted from her car to help.

She retrieved large umbrellas from her car, used them to shelter the pair from the rain and draped a raincoat over them, before helping them contact their family.

The accident occurred near a rest area in Sri Gading in Batu Pahat district, reported Malaysian media outlet China Press.

According to Ng's Facebook post, the couple had both fractured a leg and were unable to move.

Ng told China Press the Singaporean retirees, both in their sixties, were conscious and explained the accident to her.

The couple had been travelling on a motorcycle in Malaysia when they reportedly crashed into a guardrail while trying to avoid a BYD car that had suffered a tyre blowout ahead of them.

"The wife must have been in shock, she even asked if she was in Malaysia," she recounted.

As the couple did not speak Malay or English, Ng also helped them communicate with paramedics and contact their children.

Ng said she and her team remained with the couple in the rain until an ambulance arrived.

She added that the couple were sent to a hospital in Batu Pahat, and their children later arranged for them to return to Singapore for treatment.

"Seeing someone injured, I couldn't just drive by," Ng wrote in her Facebook post.

"Even when exhausted or amidst a downpour, one should reach out a helping hand if they can," Ng wrote on Facebook.

"May the couple recover soon and return home safely."
