SHAH ALAM, Nov 2 — Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari has called for stern action, including prosecution, against the operator or owner of a chicken processing plant that recently sparked concern among the Muslim community.

He said local authorities and halal certification bodies must strengthen cooperation in monitoring such premises, conducting investigations and gathering information from the public.

“Halal certification bodies and local authorities must conduct regular inspections to ensure that sensitive operations, particularly those involving health and hygiene, are closely monitored.

“I also urge the relevant parties to consider stern action, including prosecution, based on the findings of thorough investigations,” he said when met at Sekolah Rendah Agama Integrasi (SRAI) in Section 19 here today.

Also present were Selangor State Secretary Datuk Dr Ahmad Fadzil Ahmad and Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) director Datuk Shahzihan Ahmad, who joined Amirudin in distributing 1,321 food packs under the Nutrisi Selangor (NutriSel) programme.

JAIS seized more than 6.5 tonnes of raw chicken worth RM85,400 during Ops Taring Chiller at a warehouse in Puchong last Saturday (October 31) after finding that the slaughtering process did not comply with Islamic requirements.

Meanwhile, Amirudin also issued a stern warning following the discovery of illicit substances allegedly concealed at an unauthorised place of worship in South Klang during raids conducted by the Selangor Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) from October 13 to 19.

“Immoral or criminal activities must not be concealed behind places of worship. I leave it to the authorities to take firm action, as such conduct is detrimental to society and damages the reputation of religious institutions.

“We cannot hold everyone responsible, but if an incident occurs at a particular location, appropriate action must be taken. No protection will be given to those involved in unlawful activities,” he said.

On October 23, Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar said a local man had been arrested to assist in investigations into alleged drug trafficking activities involving an unregistered place of worship in Klang that was used to store drugs. — Bernama
