Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia have wounded 73 civilians, official says

Spokesman for Saudi-led coalition says Yemen’s Houthis have targeted civilian sites in Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jazan and Najran.

The Saudi Arabia-led coalition in Yemen says recent Houthi attacks on the kingdom’s southern provinces have wounded 73 civilians, including women and children, as cross-border attacks intensify alongside renewed fighting inside Yemen.

In a statement on Tuesday, coalition spokesperson Major-General Turki al-Maliki said the attacks targeted civilian and economic sites in Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jazan and Najran.

He did not specify when the attacks took place.

Al-Maliki described the attacks as a “dangerous escalation” and a “blatant violation” of Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty that posed a direct threat to the kingdom’s citizens and residents.

He warned that the coalition would take “all necessary operational measures” to confront the attacks and act against the sources of the threat.

The statement came amid a sharp escalation in fighting between the Houthis and Saudi-backed Yemeni government forces across several provinces in Yemen.

The Houthis have accused Saudi Arabia of carrying out an air strike on a detention facility in al-Hazm, in Yemen’s al-Jawf province, killing seven people, including a child, and wounding at least seven others.

Saudi Arabia had not commented on the allegation at the time.

马利基将这些袭击描述为“危险的升级”和对沙特阿拉伯主权的“公然侵犯”，对沙特公民和居民构成了直接威胁。

他警告说，联军将采取“一切必要的行动措施”来应对这些袭击，并打击威胁的源头。

声明发表之际，也门多个省份的胡塞武装与沙特支持的也门政府军之间的战斗急剧升级。

胡塞武装指责沙特阿拉伯对也门焦夫省哈兹姆的一处拘留设施发动空袭，造成包括一名儿童在内的七人死亡，另有至少七人受伤。

当时沙特阿拉伯方面尚未对此指控发表评论。
