SINGAPORE – Fifty people were evacuated after a fire broke out at a warehouse in Penjuru Road, with firefighters currently on scene working to extinguish the blaze.

In a Facebook post at about 1.30pm, the Singapore Civil Defence Force said it was alerted to a fire at 10 Penjuru Road at about noon.

It said the fire involved a warehouse within the premises.

Checks by The Straits Times shows that the address houses firms including dormitory operator Yeo’s Bro Management, construction and engineering equipment rental company Hengyew Engineering & Construction, and engineering and construction firm Apex Offshore & Engineering.

SCDF said firefighters are at work with four water jets and a firefighting machine, and that the fire is confined to the warehouse.

About 50 people were evacuated from the affected premises before SCDF personnel arrived at the scene.

The firefighting operation is ongoing and there are no reported injuries, said SCDF.

In an earlier post at 12.27pm, SCDF said its resources were at the scene carrying out the firefighting operation.

Videos circulating on social media show a column of thick black smoke rising into the sky from an industrial area.
