PERTH, Sept 10 — The alleged murder of a Penang-born mother of three in Perth has drawn attention in Malaysia, with her family grieving as a community fundraiser for her young children nears A$36,000 (RM100,000).

Tan Kah Ming, 28, was pronounced dead after paramedics were called to her home in Taree Street, St James, at about 8.30pm on August 26.

Kah Ming – who also goes by the name Carming Tan – was allegedly assaulted in the days before she became unresponsive, prompting the emergency call, with Homicide Squad detectives treating her death as occurring in the context of a family and domestic relationship.

Her partner, identified as Younis Qambari, 38, has been charged with murder and remains in custody.

Kah Ming’s father is currently in Australia handling matters following her death, while the rest of the family remains in mourning, Chinese-language Guang Ming Daily reported today, citing an unnamed relative.

Kah Ming’s twin sister, also unnamed, is now caring for her three children, aged between three and seven, according to a GoFundMe campaign launched this week.

“Many of us were deeply saddened by the passing of Ming, a beloved mother, colleague, friend, and daughter,” the fundraiser organiser was reported by a Western Australian newspaper PerthNow , as saying.

“Her loss has left an unimaginable void in the lives of those who knew and loved her, especially her three young children.

“Ming was more than a co-worker. She was a caring, hardworking, and valued member of our community who touched many lives through her kindness, dedication, and warmth,” the unnamed organiser said.

The fundraiser said there had been an “overwhelming response from colleagues, friends, and members of the wider community who have asked how they can help her children”.

It had raised almost A$36,000 (RM100,000) last Tuesday, with the largest donation at A$1,200 (RM3,300).

Australian media cited multiple St James residents saying that Kah Ming lived at the Taree Street property with her partner and several young children.

It is understood Kah Ming’s three children were at home when

emergency services were called to the suburban street.

The fundraiser said donations would help provide “stability, security, and ongoing care” for the children as they navigate life without their mother.

Qambari is due to next appear at Stirling Gardens Magistrates Court on September 16 for legal advice.

Under Western Australian law, an adult convicted of murder must generally be sentenced to life imprisonment, unless the court finds that such a sentence would be clearly unjust and the offender is unlikely to pose a threat to community safety when released.

A court sentencing an offender to life imprisonment for murder must set a minimum period of at least 10 years before the person can become eligible for parole, or order that the offender never be released.

The case is still before the courts and Qambari has not been convicted of the charge.
