Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi conveyed the party's disappointment over the deferment of former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's clemency application, expressing hope for a positive outcome.

Zahid emphasized Umno's respect for the Malay Rulers and appealed to His Majesty the King for a judicious decision.

The delay in Najib's clemency application was consented to during the 63rd meeting of the Federal Territories Pardons Board.

Najib, serving a reduced sentence for the misappropriation of RM42 million from SRC International, had his legal efforts to serve the remainder of his term under house arrest dismissed.

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 11 — Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today expressed disappointment over the postponement of former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s clemency application, but said the party continues to hope for a favourable outcome.

Zahid said Umno respected the decision and would continue to uphold the institution of the Malay Rulers while appealing to His Majesty the King to use his wisdom in deciding Najib’s application.

“We are saddened by the decision. Nevertheless, we continue to express our deepest respect to His Majesty the King, and we appeal to His Majesty to use all his wisdom to make the best decision.

“We continue to uphold the institution of the Malay Rulers. We continue to support the Rulers, and we hope that something favourable will be granted to Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak,” he told reporters after delivering his policy speech at Umno’s general assembly here.

The Prime Minister’s Department today said Najib’s clemency application had been deferred to a future sitting of the Federal Territories Pardons Board.

The department – which covers Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya – said the board held its 63rd meeting this morning with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim consenting to the postponement.

Earlier this morning Zahid expressed hope for the “best” news for Najib during his policy speech at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur.

Umno delegates greeted Najib’s wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, enthusiastically with applause after Zahid asked her to stand for a moment during his speech.

Najib, 72, was convicted of misappropriating RM42 million belonging to SRC International and sentenced to 12 years in prison and a RM210 million fine. He began serving his sentence at Kajang Prison on August 23, 2022.

In 2024, the Federal Territories Pardons Board halved his prison term to six years and reduced the fine to RM50 million.

Najib and his lawyers subsequently argued that the partial pardon included a royal addendum allowing him to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest, and sued to have it enforced.

On December 22 last year, High Court judge Alice Loke dismissed Najib’s application to serve the remainder of his reduced sentence under house arrest.

Najib withdrew his appeal against the decision in April this year.

巫统主席拿督斯里阿末扎希哈米迪对前首相拿督斯里纳吉的赦免申请被推迟表示失望，并希望能够取得积极的结果。

扎希德强调巫统尊重马来统治者，并呼吁国王陛下做出明智的决定。

在联邦直辖区赦免委员会第 63 次会议上，同意推迟纳吉布的赦免申请。

纳吉因挪用 SRC 国际公司 4200 万令吉而被判减刑，他要求在家软禁服完剩余刑期的法律努力被驳回。

吉隆坡，9月11日讯——巫统主席拿督斯里阿末扎希今日对前首相拿督斯里纳吉的赦免申请被推迟表示失望，但他表示，巫统仍然希望能够得到有利的结果。

扎希德表示，巫统尊重这一决定，并将继续维护马来统治者的制度，同时呼吁国王陛下运用智慧来决定纳吉的申请。

“我们对这一决定感到遗憾。尽管如此，我们仍然向国王陛下表达最深切的敬意，并恳请陛下运用他的全部智慧做出最佳决定。”

“我们继续维护马来统治者的制度。我们继续支持统治者，并希望拿督斯里纳吉·阿卜杜勒·拉扎克能得到一些有利的待遇，”他在巫统大会上发表政策演讲后告诉记者。
