PM Anwar visits Kampung Numbak fire victims, pledges aid

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, accompanied by Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, visited the victims of the Kampung Numbak fire at a temporary relief centre in Kota Kinabalu, offering support and handing over aid.

A briefing was provided by Kota Kinabalu Mayor Datuk Seri Dr Sabin Samitah, and assistance, including food baskets and RM1,500 in financial aid, was extended to 111 households.

The fire, which occurred on August 30, destroyed approximately 200 houses and resulted in three fatalities.

Victims expressed their gratitude for the government support, highlighting the need for expedited rebuilding efforts.

KOTA KINABALU, Sept 11 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim visited and offered support to victims of the Kampung Numbak fire at the temporary relief centre at the Damai Multipurpose Hall here today.

Anwar, accompanied by Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, arrived at the relief centre at 1.30 pm and spent about 20 minutes meeting the victims.

The Prime Minister was then briefed on the fire by Kota Kinabalu Mayor Datuk Seri Dr Sabin Samitah before handing over aid to the victims.

A total of 111 heads of household received food baskets as well as RM1,500 in special financial assistance from the federal government.

Earlier, Anwar and Hajiji joined more than 100 residents for Friday prayers at the nearby Masjid Jamek Kampung Likas.

One of the victims, Ruhin Nya Amrani, 52, said the assistance is a great help, particularly in covering the expenses of her two children, who are in secondary school.

“I am touched that the Prime Minister himself came to visit us and provide assistance. This will certainly help ease our burden,” she said.

Mohd Jamri Jamjiru, 43, said the government’s assistance will be put to good use.

“We appreciate all the assistance given, but what matters now is for the government to speed up efforts to rebuild our settlement,” he said.

亚庇市长拿督斯里萨宾·萨米塔博士作了简报，并向 111 户家庭提供了援助，包括食品篮和 1500 令吉的财政援助。

安华在沙巴州首席部长拿督斯里哈吉吉·诺尔的陪同下，于下午1点30分抵达救援中心，并花了大约20分钟时间与受害者见面。

随后，首相听取了亚庇市长拿督斯里萨宾·萨米塔博士关于火灾情况的汇报，之后向受害者发放了援助物资。

共有 111 户家庭户主获得了食品篮以及联邦政府提供的 1500 令吉特别财政援助。

此前，安华和哈吉吉与 100 多名居民一起在附近的 Jamek Kampung Likas 清真寺参加了周五祈祷。

其中一名受害者，52岁的鲁欣·尼亚·阿姆拉尼表示，这项援助意义重大，尤其是在支付她两个上中学的孩子的开销方面。

“总理亲自前来探望并提供援助，我非常感动。这无疑会减轻我们的负担，”她说。

43岁的莫哈末·贾姆里·贾姆吉鲁表示，政府的援助将会得到充分利用。

“我们感谢各方提供的援助，但现在最重要的是政府加快重建我们定居点的步伐，”他说。
