On Thursday (Sept 10), an anonymous user posted footage of the incident on the Facebook group Complaint Singapore.
The video shows the scene at Little India station: A backpack is on the ground with a fire coming out of it, while two staff members with a fire extinguisher surround it.
In another photo, the fire has been put out with white fire-retardant powder covering the backpack.
In response to AsiaOne's queries, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) shared that they were alerted to the power bank fire at about 8.05am, but it had been put out by an SBS Transit staff member using a fire extinguisher before their arrival.
They assessed one person for shortness of breath and another for minor injuries. Both declined to be sent to the hospital.
"Preliminary findings indicate that the fire had likely started from the power bank," they added.

Earlier in July, a power bank inside a commuter's backpack reportedly emitted smoke on an MRT train , prompting an evacuation of passengers at Buangkok station.
This came around a week after one inside someone's bag caught on fire at Woodlands MRT station, and staff had to extinguish it.

SCDF reminds the public not to leave their batteries or devices charging unattended for long periods of time or overnight, to prevent such fires.
