During a bilateral meeting in New Delhi, Prime Ministers Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim of Malaysia and Narendra Modi of India discussed enhancing semiconductor collaboration and forming industry partnerships.

Anwar emphasized integrated supply chains, talent development, and boosting bilateral trade and investment, while exploring opportunities in tourism and connectivity.

He reaffirmed Malaysia's commitment to strengthening ties with India, a major trading partner, and expressed appreciation for the warm reception.

The meeting was held alongside the 18th Brics Leaders' Summit, with Malaysia participating as a Brics Partner Country.

NEW DELHI, Sept 12 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi discussed deepening semiconductor cooperation and translating it into industry partnerships during their bilateral meeting here today.

Anwar spoke about integrated supply chains, talent development and two-way investment during the meeting held on the sidelines of the 18th Brics Leaders’ Summit.

Anwar, who is also the Finance Minister, reaffirmed Malaysia’s commitment to increasing bilateral trade and investment, enhancing cooperation across various sectors, as well as implementing measures to facilitate and expedite Malaysian exports to India.

The Prime Minister also spoke on exploring opportunities to further strengthen tourism and people-to-people ties through increased flight connectivity.

He expressed his appreciation for the warm welcome and reaffirmed the longstanding friendship between Malaysia and India.

Anwar arrived here yesterday to attend the Summit hosted by Modi. This is his second visit to India with the first in August 2024.

Malaysia is participating in the Summit in its capacity as a Brics Partner Country, a status it has held since January 1, 2025.

The two countries have maintained long-standing relations since 1957. Their bilateral ties were elevated to a comprehensive strategic partnership during Anwar’s first visit to the republic.

India remains Malaysia’s largest trading partner in the South Asian region, with total trade between the two countries reaching RM79.49 billion (US$18.59 billion) in 2025.

Malaysia’s key exports to India comprise palm oil and palm oil-based agricultural products, as well as electrical and electronic products, while imports mainly comprise agricultural, petroleum and chemical products. — Bernama
