Home minister: New deputy IGP chosen after consultation with King, announcement due soon

The appointment process for the new deputy inspector-general of police has concluded and will be announced shortly, according to Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

This process, conducted under the Federal Constitution, involved input from the King and followed recommendations from the Police Force Commission.

Saifuddin highlighted that several candidates were considered, all holding the requisite rank of police commissioner, before the final decision was made.

Additionally, he discussed a 12-kilometre road project that will enhance connectivity between Kedah and Penang, reducing travel time and benefiting local residents.

KULIM, Sept 13 — The appointment of the new deputy inspector-general of police (IGP) has been finalised and will be announced soon, said Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

He said the appointment process had been completed in accordance with procedures under the Federal Constitution, including obtaining the views of the King.

“The process begins with the Police Force Commission (SPP), which I chair together with the committee appointed by the King in accordance with the Constitution,” he told reporters after inspecting development projects under RP1 of the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) by the Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU) here today.

Saifuddin Nasution said several names had been considered and discussions held before the process was finalised.

“Everything has been completed. We have named the candidate and the announcement will be made as soon as possible, either within the next few hours or in the next one or two days,” he said.

On the eligibility criteria for the deputy IGP post, Saifuddin Nasution said all officers holding the rank of police commissioner (CP) were eligible for consideration.

He said PDRM currently has 25 CP-ranked officers, while three others hold the rank in special capacities appointed by the inspector-general of police.

In July, Tan Sri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay, who reached mandatory retirement age, handed over the deputy IGP duties to Special Branch director Datuk Seri Ibrahim Darus, who is currently serving as acting deputy IGP.

Meanwhile, Saifuddin Nasution said the Kampung Badlishah/Ayer Putih Junjong road project near here would provide an alternative route for motorists travelling between Serdang, Kedah and Seberang Perai, Penang.

He said the 12-kilometre road project would reduce travel time by more than 30 minutes, providing greater convenience and delivering a positive impact to residents. — Bernama

他表示，马来西亚皇家警察部队目前有 25 名警司级警官，另有 3 名警司以特聘身份担任该级别职务，由警察总监任命。

7 月，达到强制退休年龄的丹斯里阿尤布·汗·迈丁·皮查伊将副总警监的职务移交给特别部门主任拿督斯里·易卜拉欣·达鲁斯，后者目前担任代理副总警监。

与此同时，Saifuddin Nasution表示，附近的Kampung Badlishah/Ayer Putih Junjong道路项目将为驾车者提供一条往返于吉打州沙登和槟城威省之间的替代路线。
