Singaporean former actor Haden Hee to stand trial in October over 6 fraud, forgery charges

Singaporean former actor Haden Hee Lic-Kai is set to face trial over six charges of fraud and forgery of documents on Oct 5.

The case involves his Korean food products wholesaler company Hanguk Kitchen, according to court documents obtained by AsiaOne.

The 45-year-old had allegedly instructed the company's sales director Chew Chui Shien, 53, to forge documents to fraudulently obtain $14,400 in grants from NTUC's Employment and Employability Institute (e2i) between April 2018 and January 2019.

According to a Straits Times (ST) report published on Feb 24 this year, Chew submitted an application in 2017 for the Place-and-Train professional conversion programme administered by e2i, seeking salary support.

The programme helps companies reskill mid-career workers and transition into new job roles.

The application stated that Hanguk Kitchen intended to hire individuals for the roles of corporate/marketing copywriter and brand manager.

Haden was reportedly the sole director and shareholder of Hanguk Kitchen at the time of the offences.

In 2018, Hanguk Kitchen hired two people — a woman as a sales and marketing manager, and a man as a business development manager.

Haden allegedly instructed Chew to forge employment contracts indicating that the two employees had been hired as a marketing and copywriting manager, and chief brands development officer respectively.

He also asked Chew to issue four sets of forged payslips for the two employees.

Chew was sentenced to five months' jail on Feb 24 after pleading guilty to two charges — cheating involving $8,400 and forgery. She began serving her sentence in March.

According to ST's report, the DPP said during Chew's trial: "Haden and (Chew) knew that (the woman) did not fulfil the e2i salary support grant conditions as her role did not fit the roles for which e2i had issued grant offers. (She) also did not receive any increment in her salary after undergoing training.

"Nevertheless, as Hanguk Kitchen was having cash flow issues, Haden decided to proceed with claiming the grants from e2i by representing that she had been employed as a marketing and copywriting manager."

The prosecution reportedly told the court then that the full sum of $14,400 has since been "clawed back".

Haden was charged in October 2024 and is currently out on bail of $30,000. His case will be heard on Oct 5.

He had previously appeared in local dramas such as Your Hand in Mine (2008), C.L.I.F. 2 (2013), The Dream Makers (2013), World at Your Feet (2014), Fire Up (2016), Legal Eagles (2017) and Gifted (2018).

The younger brother of former actor-model Julian Hee, he had also worked as a real estate agent.

该计划帮助企业对中年员工进行技能再培训，并帮助他们过渡到新的工作岗位。

申请书中称，Hanguk Kitchen 打算招聘企业/市场营销文案撰写人和品牌经理。

据报道，案发时，Haden 是 Hanguk Kitchen 的唯一董事和股东。

2018 年，Hanguk Kitchen 聘用了两人——一名女性担任销售和市场经理，一名男性担任业务发展经理。

据称，Haden 指示 Chew 伪造雇佣合同，表明这两名员工分别被聘为市场营销和文案经理以及首席品牌发展官。

他还要求周某为这两名员工出具四份伪造的工资单。

周某于2月24日认罪，承认两项罪名——诈骗8400美元和伪造罪，被判处五个月监禁。她于3月开始服刑。

据《海峡时报》报道，控方在周的庭审中表示：“海登和（周）明知（该女子）不符合e2i薪资支持补助金的条件，因为她的职位与e2i发放补助金的职位不符。（她）在接受培训后也没有获得任何加薪。”

“然而，由于韩国厨房面临现金流问题，海登决定继续向 e2i 申请补助金，谎称自己受雇担任市场营销和文案经理。”

据报道，检方当时告诉法庭，14400 美元的全部款项已被“追回”。

海登于2024年10月被起诉，目前以3万美元保释。他的案件将于10月5日开庭审理。

他之前曾出演过《你的手在我手中》（2008）、《CLIF 2》（2013）、《造梦者》（2013）、《世界在你脚下》（2014）、《火力全开》（2016）、《法律雄鹰》（2017）和《天才少女》（2018）等本地电视剧。

他是前演员兼模特朱利安·许的弟弟，也曾担任过房地产经纪人。
