What K-pop concert venues will look like in 2027

K-pop concert venues in 2027 are set for a major reshuffle, led by Seoul Arena in northern Seoul, the return of Jamsil Olympic Main Stadium and upgrades at Goyang Stadium. Seoul Arena began taking rental applications this month for live performances in the second half of 2027. The venue mix is changing as promoters seek larger, more flexible spaces while other sites finish construction or renovation.

Seoul Arena is a 28,000-capacity venue under construction in Dobong District, northern Seoul.

The complex will also include a mid-size hall seating about 7,000, and promoters can book either space or combine the two.

Construction at Jamsil Olympic Main Stadium is scheduled to wrap at the end of this year, after which it will serve as the substitute ballpark for the LG Twins and Doosan Bears through 2031.

Goyang Stadium and Goyang Urban Management Corp. will spend about 15 billion won starting with next year’s main budget for full seat replacement, restroom and facility upgrades and exterior repairs.

From the second half of 2024 through the end of last year, concerts at Goyang Stadium drew 850,000 attendees and generated 12.5 billion won in cumulative revenue.

Next year will reshape where and how K-pop is staged, with a purpose-built arena opening in northern Seoul, the country's largest stadium returning from a three-year overhaul and the city of Goyang spending money on upgrades to hold on to the business it's built while other venues have been under construction.

The clearest change will be Seoul Arena, the 28,000-capacity venue under construction in Dobong District, northern Seoul. It began accepting official rental applications this month for live performances in the second half of 2027, with submissions closing Friday. Alongside the main arena, the complex will house a mid-size hall seating about 7,000, and promoters can book either space or combine the two depending on the scale of an event.

The venue is being built as a build-transfer-operate project with Kakao as lead investor. Ownership will transfer to the Seoul Metropolitan Government on completion, after which a Kakao-held operating company will run the site for 30 years. Opening is targeted for the first half of next year.

One major booking is already locked in: Fanomenon , the government-backed K-culture festival positioned as a Korean answer to Coachella, runs Dec. 2 to 12, 2027, split between Seoul Arena and KINTEX Hall 2 in Goyang.

What separates Seoul Arena from other venues are how the acoustics and sightlines were design inputs rather than afterthoughts. Retractable seating allows the bowl to be reconfigured by event type, an LED system runs through the seating and is tied to stage production, overhead rigging handles lighting and sound equipment and trucks can drive directly into the building for load-in.

That matters because the existing options are thin.

KSPO Dome in Seoul's Songpa District and Incheon's Inspire Arena each top out around 15,000 seats. Gocheok Sky Dome holds roughly 20,000 for concerts but gives priority to professional baseball. Seoul World Cup Stadium seats more than 66,000, but ground-level tickets are withheld from sale to protect the turf.

Jamsil's next chapter

The capital's largest stadium, meanwhile, is nearing the end of a three-year overhaul.

Construction at Jamsil Olympic Main Stadium wraps at the end of this year, after which the venue will take on a second life as the substitute ballpark for the LG Twins and Doosan Bears through 2031, while a domed stadium is built on the site of the old Jamsil Baseball Stadium. Seoul City is replacing the football pitch and running track with a field built to the Korean Baseball Organization's specifications.

Whether concert bookings will run alongside that schedule has not been announced, although industry insiders expect the stadium to remain open to concerts, pointing to Gocheok Sky Dome as a precedent. Home to a single baseball club, Gocheok already splits its calendar between games and concerts.

The stadium last took concert bookings in 2023.

Goyang Stadium, which absorbed much of the demand when Jamsil closed for renovations, is spending money to keep it.

The city and Goyang Urban Management Corp. will secure about 15 billion won ($11.1 million) in stages beginning with next year's main budget to cover full seat replacement, restroom and facility upgrades and exterior repairs at the 40,000 seat venue, which opened in 2003. Concerts will continue during the work.

The numbers explain the investment. From the second half of 2024 through the end of last year, concerts at the stadium drew 850,000 attendees and generated 12.5 billion won in cumulative revenue.

Taken together, next year's map looks less like a single fix for a venue shortage than a rearrangement of where large-scale shows can go.

首尔体育馆与其他场馆的不同之处在于，其音响效果和视线设计并非事后补救，而是从一开始就融入了设计考量。可伸缩座椅使得场馆可以根据活动类型进行重新布局；LED系统贯穿整个座椅并与舞台制作相连；顶部吊装系统负责灯光和音响设备的吊装；卡车可以直接驶入场馆进行设备装卸。

这很重要，因为现有的选择余地很小。

首尔松坡区的KSPO巨蛋和仁川的Inspire Arena体育馆的座位数均约为15,000个。高尺巨蛋体育馆可容纳约20,000名观众观看演唱会，但优先用于举办职业棒球比赛。首尔世界杯体育场可容纳超过66,000名观众，但为了保护草坪，地面层的门票不对外出售。

蚕室的下一章

与此同时，首都最大的体育场也即将完成为期三年的翻修工程。

蚕室奥林匹克主体育场的建设将于今年年底竣工，之后该场地将作为LG双子队和斗山熊队的备用球场使用至2031年。与此同时，一座新的室内体育场将在原蚕室棒球场的旧址上拔地而起。首尔市政府正在拆除原有的足球场和跑道，并按照韩国棒球组织的规格建造新的棒球场。

目前尚未公布演唱会是否会与赛程安排同步进行，但业内人士预计体育场将继续开放举办演唱会，并以高尺巨蛋为例。高尺巨蛋是棒球队的主场，其赛程安排已包含比赛和演唱会。

该体育场上次接受演唱会预订是在 2023 年。

高阳体育场在蚕室体育场因翻修而关闭期间承担了大部分需求，目前高阳体育场正在投入资金以维持其运营。

高阳市和高阳城市管理公社将从明年的主要预算开始，分阶段筹集约 150 亿韩元（1110 万美元），用于对这座 2003 年开放的拥有 4 万个座位的场馆进行全面座椅更换、卫生间和设施升级以及外部维修。施工期间，音乐会将继续举行。

这些数字说明了这项投资的价值。从2024年下半年到去年年底，该体育场举办的演唱会吸引了85万名观众，累计收入达125亿韩元。

综合来看，明年的地图与其说是解决场地短缺问题的单一方案，不如说是重新安排大型演出举办地点的方案。
