Anthropic to set up fifth APAC office in Singapore, hiring for multiple roles

AI software developer Anthropic is setting up an office in Singapore in October, expanding its presence in the Asia-Pacific region.

In a press release on Wednesday (Sept 16), the tech giant, which created the AI chatbot Claude, said that the Singapore office will be the fifth in the region, following those in Tokyo, Bengaluru, Seoul, and Sydney.

The decision to set up an office locally is "driven by strong enterprise demand for Claude", with Singapore already being a "standout market" for the AI-powered technology.

The company is currently hiring for nine roles, ranging from sales to marketing and applied AI.

Based on Anthropic’s most recent Economic Index published on June 26, Singapore ranks second out of 121 countries in Claude.ai usage relative to population.

Usage of Claude is 5.81 times higher than would be expected based on Singapore's population, and opening an office in Singapore is a "natural next step", said managing director of international at Anthropic Chris Ciauri.

"A presence here means we can hire the people who know this market best, and work side by side with local customers and partners building with Claude," he added.

With previous roles in AI, financial services, and enterprise at Google Cloud, Dale Finlay, Anthropic's ASEAN general manager, will be lead operations in Singapore and work with customers and partners across Southeast Asia.

"I've seen that ambition isn't the blocker to AI adoption — trust is. Once that trust exists, the real work is embedding AI into how the business actually operates," said Finlay.

Anthropic said it plans to work with organisations of every size, from startups and digital natives to large enterprises and the public sector.

"Singapore brings together a high concentration of technical talent, global businesses, research institutions, and a strong innovation ecosystem," it said, adding Singapore's focus on "innovation and safety aligns closely with Anthropic’s approach".

“我发现，阻碍人工智能普及的不是雄心壮志，而是信任。一旦建立了信任，真正的挑战在于如何将人工智能融入到企业的实际运营中，”芬利说道。

Anthropic表示，计划与各种规模的组织合作，从初创企业和数字原生企业到大型企业和公共部门。
