Man who threw rock at Police Cantonment Complex glass door charged with vandalism

A 44-year-old man who allegedly shattered a glass door at Police Cantonment Complex by throwing a rock at it on Tuesday (Sept 15) was charged in court with vandalism on Thursday (Sept 17) morning.

Saravanan Arulanandan Pillay, who appeared in court via video conferencing, was ordered to be remanded at the Institute of Mental Health for a medical assessment.

Speaking through a court interpreter, Saravanan sought the court's permission to make a phone call to his mother and had his request granted.

His request to post bail was deferred till the next hearing on Oct 1.

Police said in a news release on Wednesday night that Saravanan was believed to be intoxicated at the time of the incident.

He is accused of throwing a half-kilogramme rock at the glass door of PCC's main entrance, causing it to shatter.

The offence of vandalism carries a penalty of up to three years' jail and a fine of up to $2,000. Those found guilty of the said offence may also receive up to eight strokes of the cane.

他的保释申请被推迟到10月1日的下次听证会上进行。

警方周三晚间在一份新闻稿中表示，萨拉瓦南在事发时可能处于醉酒状态。

他被指控向 PCC 正门玻璃门投掷了一块重达半公斤的石头，导致玻璃门破碎。

故意破坏公物罪最高可判处三年监禁和2000美元罚款。被判犯有该罪行者还可能被处以最高八下鞭刑。
