A Singapore Airlines (SIA) flight bound for Singapore from London's Heathrow Airport was diverted to Turkey's Istanbul Airport on Tuesday (Sept 15) after a passenger became unwell.
SQ305, an Airbus A350-900 aircraft, was carrying 197 passengers and 16 crew members, the national carrier said in response to AsiaOne's queries.
Data from flight tracking website FlightRadar24 shows that the aircraft took off at 9.53am (local time).
About three-and-a-half hours into the flight, while the aircraft was over Turkey's Trabzon, it made a right turn towards Istanbul.
The plane landed uneventfully at Istanbul Airport at 5.07pm (local time).
"(Flight SQ305) was diverted to Istanbul Airport due to a medical emergency on board," said an SIA spokesperson, without disclosing further details due to confidentiality reasons.
SIA said the passenger was met by medical services and taken to hospital immediately upon arriving in Istanbul.
As the flight crew would have exceeded their regulatory flight time limits, the flight was rescheduled to depart Istanbul for Singapore at 12.10pm (local time) on Sept 16.
Meanwhile, affected customers were provided with "all necessary assistance", SIA said.
This includes arranging hotel accommodation and rebooking them on alternative flights.
Flight SQ305 was subsequently renumbered as SQ9391 and departed Istanbul as planned, arriving in Singapore at 3.30am on Thursday.
The national carrier apologised to its customers for the inconvenience caused, adding that the safety of its customers and crew is always its top priority.
On Monday, SIA flight SQ24 heading to New York from Singapore returned to Changi Airport after the pilot apparently became unwell.
The flight subsequently took off again the same evening after the plane was refuelled.
