SEOUL, Sept. 18 (Yonhap) -- A parliamentary confirmation hearing was held Friday for a special inspector nominee tasked with investigating corruption allegations involving the family and relatives of the president and senior aides to the president, marking the first of its kind in 11 years.

Choi Kil-su, a former senior prosecutor, was nominated by President Lee Jae Myung from among three candidates recommended by the rival parties and the bar association last month.

"I will not be swayed by any external pressure or political considerations and will make decisions solely based on the law and principles, as well as objective facts and evidence," Choi said during his confirmation hearing at the National Assembly.

"I will ensure that the very existence of the special inspector serves as a mechanism that heightens discipline and accountability among public officials and helps prevent misconduct," he said.

The special inspector post was established in 2014 to conduct investigations into alleged irregularities involving the president's spouse and close relatives, and senior presidential officials, but has remained vacant since 2016.

The last confirmation hearing for the post was held in March 2015.

首尔，9月18日（韩联社）——周五，国会举行了特别监察员提名人选的确认听证会，该人将负责调查涉及总统及其亲属和高级助手的腐败指控，这是11年来首次举行此类听证会。

前高级检察官崔吉洙是李在明总统上个月从对立政党和律师协会推荐的三名候选人中提名的。

特别监察员职位设立于 2014 年，负责调查涉及总统配偶、近亲和高级总统官员的涉嫌违规行为，但自 2016 年以来一直空缺。

该职位的最后一次确认听证会是在 2015 年 3 月举行的。
