A man has warned others about an elaborate scam after receiving what appeared to be Apple password reset alerts, followed by a phone call from someone claiming to be from Apple Support.
Facebook user Jem Chua shared his experience in a post recently, saying he received password reset notifications on both his iPhone and Apple Watch.
As he had not requested a password reset, Chua rejected the requests.
Shortly afterwards, he received an automated phone call asking him to press "1" if he had not attempted to reset his password.
After he did so, the automated message told him that a customer service agent would call to verify his details.
Caller claimed to be from Apple Support
About two minutes later, Chua received a call from a California number.
The caller claimed to be from Apple Customer Support and told him that Apple's servers had detected an attempt to reset his password.
According to Chua, the caller claimed the attempt had originated from Russia and accurately identified that he was in Singapore.
The caller also allegedly told Chua that the call was being recorded for training and service quality purposes, making the call appear legitimate.
Chua said the caller directed him to open his web browser and log into Apple's support website, where he would supposedly be guided through the process of blocking the device responsible for the attempted reset.
"At this point in time, I started to sense something fishy...this is not normal process," Chua said.
Spots red flag before entering access code
Chua said he had already opened the official Apple support website when the caller told him to instead visit another URL, "sg-apple.com".
The caller then allegedly instructed him to enter an access code on the website.
Chua stopped before keying in any information and confronted the caller, telling him that he knew it was a scam.
The caller immediately hung up.
The following day (Aug 16), Chua posted an update saying he had returned to check the website he was directed to during the call and found that the site was no longer accessible.
Chua said he had not reported the website himself but learnt through comments and direct messages that some people had already flagged it after reading his original post.
"My own [public service announcement] led to another learning opportunity for me and I'm glad I learnt something new."

大约两分钟后，蔡接到一个来自加利福尼亚州的电话。
来电者自称是苹果客户支持人员，并告诉他苹果的服务器检测到有人试图重置他的密码。
据蔡先生称，来电者声称此次攻击来自俄罗斯，并准确地表明自己身在新加坡。
据称，来电者还告诉蔡某，此次通话是为了培训和服务质量而进行的录音，使通话看起来合法。
蔡先生说，来电者指示他打开网络浏览器并登录苹果公司的支持网站，在那里他会得到指导，完成阻止导致重置尝试的设备的操作。
“这时，我开始觉得有些不对劲……这不是正常的过程，”蔡说。
输入访问代码前发现红色警告
蔡先生说，他当时已经打开了苹果官方支持网站，但来电者却让他访问另一个网址“sg-apple.com”。
据称，来电者随后指示他在网站上输入访问码。
蔡先生还没来得及输入任何信息就停了下来，并质问来电者，告诉他自己知道这是个骗局。
对方立即挂断了电话。
第二天（8 月 16 日），蔡某发帖更新称，他返回查看了通话中被告知的网站，发现该网站已无法访问。
蔡先生表示，他本人并没有举报该网站，而是通过评论和私信得知，一些人在阅读了他的原始帖子后已经举报了该网站。
“我自己的[公益广告]也给我带来了另一个学习机会，我很高兴自己学到了新东西。”
