Sept 19 (Reuters) - Aprilia's Jorge Martin made a huge statement in the world championship battle by storming to pole position ahead of title rival and reigning MotoGP champion Marc Marquez of Ducati at the Austrian Grand Prix on Saturday.
The 28-year-old Spaniard, the 2024 MotoGP champion, clocked a lap of 1:27.917 in the closing minutes of Q2 at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg to secure his third pole position of the season, edging Marquez by just 0.015 seconds.
