An ill delivery rider has reportedly died after falling into a Tanah Merah condominium pool, Shin Min Daily News reported on Saturday (Sept 19).
Wang Zhicong (transliteration), 64, was making a delivery when he fell into the pool just after 8.30pm on Thursday.
Responding to queries from AsiaOne, the police and Singapore Civil Defence Force said that they received a call for assistance along 58 Tanah Merah Kechil Avenue at around 8.40pm.
A 64-year-old man was taken unconscious to Changi General Hospital where he subsequently died.
Based on preliminary investigations, police do not suspect foul play.
Investigations are ongoing.
Wang, who has no children, is survived by his wife, who he married a decade ago, Shin Min reported.
When reporters from the Chinese publication visited his funeral, his wife was visibly distraught.
She was with her colleague, who told Shin Min that Wang was a salesperson but had lost his job recently and switched to doing delivery work instead.
The colleague said that they had a "good relationship" and spoke over the phone the same afternoon Wang died, only for the latter to become uncontactable in the evening.
Responding to Shin Min's queries, a Grab spokesperson confirmed that Wang was its delivery partner.
"We are deeply saddened by this and extend our deepest condolences to his family and friends, mourning with them during this difficult time," the spokesperson said.
Grab has since contacted Wang's family to provide assistance and is also cooperating with investigations.

中国媒体记者前往他的葬礼时，他的妻子明显情绪崩溃。
她和同事在一起，同事告诉《新明日报》，王先生以前是销售员，但最近失业了，改行做送货员了。
这位同事说，他们关系“很好”，在王先生去世的当天下午还通过电话，但到了晚上王先生就联系不上了。
针对《新明日报》的询问，Grab 发言人证实，王某是其配送合作伙伴。
发言人表示：“我们对此深感悲痛，并向他的家人和朋友致以最深切的慰问，与他们一同哀悼这一艰难时刻。”
Grab已联系王某的家人提供帮助，并正在配合调查。
