PM Anwar appeals for unity, tells parties to stop playing racial card when desperate

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has urged political parties not to exploit racial issues for support, especially during challenging political dynamics.

Speaking at the Malaysia Chinese Cultural Festival, he emphasized the need for Malaysia to harness the strength of its diverse population as the country approaches 70 years of independence.

Anwar called for a unified national focus and highlighted the government's commitment to eradicating corruption, affirming zero tolerance for such practices.

MELAKA, Sept 21 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has once again cautioned political parties against exploiting racial issues to gain public support.

He said such tactics are often deployed when political parties find themselves in desperate situations, particularly during political dynamics that work against them.

“When politics becomes convoluted and contentious, parties withdraw support and resort to playing the racial card. When desperate, they use race again,” he said when officiating the 41st Malaysia Chinese Cultural Festival at Kota Syahbandar here yesterday.

Also present were Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong and Melaka State Secretary Datuk Salhah Salleh.

Anwar noted that Malaysia has been independent for 69 years, adding that racial issues should no longer be the primary focus of any community in the country.

As the nation approaches nearly 70 years of independence, Anwar said Malaysia must emerge as a nation that thrives on the collective strength of its diverse races, regardless of who leads the country.

“My speech tonight is more of an appeal – an appeal for us to return to our collective strength. Every voice counts for our survival. Have we not had enough of endless arguments and disputes? Whose country is this? It is our country.

“In the 1940s and 1950s, I can understand. The nation was on the verge of independence, and each group was concerned about its racial survival. In the 1960s, yes, Malaysia was a young nation,” he said.

Anwar stressed that every voice must now focus on the future survival of Malaysia as a unified nation.

“Whoever is given the mandate, whoever is supported, must promise to protect the people, safeguard the country, and secure the future of our children as one nation,” he said.

Meanwhile, Anwar reiterated that the government will not compromise on corruption and abuse of power, pledging to eradicate it completely.

“My government and I will show zero tolerance, and I will continue to act decisively to clean this country of corruption,” he said. — Bernama

马来西亚首相拿督斯里安华·易卜拉欣敦促各政党不要利用种族问题来获取支持，尤其是在充满挑战的政治局势下。

他在马来西亚华人文化节上发表讲话时强调，马来西亚即将迎来独立70周年，国家需要充分利用其多元化人口的优势。

安华呼吁全国上下团结一致，强调政府致力于根除腐败，并重申对腐败行为零容忍。

马六甲，9月21日讯——首相拿督斯里安华再次警告各政党不要利用种族问题来获取公众支持。

他表示，当政党陷入绝境时，尤其是在政治形势对他们不利的情况下，往往会采取这种策略。

“当政治变得复杂且充满争议时，各政党就会撤回支持，转而打种族牌。走投无路时，他们就会再次利用种族问题，”他昨天在哥打沙班达为第41届马来西亚华人文化节揭幕时说道。

出席者包括企业家发展及合作社部长沈志强和马六甲州务秘书拿督沙哈沙烈。

安华指出，马来西亚独立已有69年，并补充说，种族问题不应再是该国任何社区关注的焦点。

安华表示，在马来西亚即将迎来独立70周年之际，无论谁领导这个国家，马来西亚都必须成为一个依靠其多元种族集体力量而繁荣发展的国家。

“我今晚的演讲更像是一种呼吁——呼吁我们重拾集体的力量。每个人的声音都至关重要，关乎我们的生存。难道我们还没有厌倦无休止的争论和纷争吗？这究竟是谁的国家？这是我们的国家。”

“在20世纪40年代和50年代，我能理解。当时国家即将独立，每个族群都关心着自身种族的生存。到了60年代，是的，马来西亚还是个年轻的国家，”他说。

安华强调，现在每个人的声音都必须聚焦于马来西亚作为一个统一国家的未来生存。

他说：“无论谁获得授权，无论谁得到支持，都必须承诺保护人民，捍卫国家，保障我们作为一个国家的孩子的未来。”

与此同时，安华重申政府不会在腐败和滥用职权问题上妥协，并承诺彻底根除腐败和滥用职权现象。

“我和我的政府将对腐败采取零容忍态度，我将继续采取果断行动，清除这个国家的腐败。”他说道。——马新社
