The Land Transport Authority will launch three new bus services in Tengah and Woodlands, enhance two existing bus services, and introduce shuttle buses for Jurong Region Line commuters, announced Minister for Transport Jeffrey Siow on Sunday (Sept 20).
"More people are still moving in every day. In another two years, Tengah will have 57,000 residents — double again," the transport minister said at a community event in Tengah, reiterating that transport is a key priority for any new town.
Siow pointed out that Tengah had about 12,000 residents about a year ago, but that number has since more than doubled to 28,000.
Meanwhile, the number of bus services has increased from four in May last year to 11, including city direct service 674, which directly connects the estate to the CBD during peak hours.
And more bus services could be added without congesting the only trunk road — Bukit Batok Road — when a new road being built between Choa Chu Kang and Tengah is completed, Siow said.
New and enhanced bus services
The three new bus services to be introduced under the Bus Connectivity Enhancement Programme (BCEP) are services 968, 873 and 874.
LTA said service 968 will support the opening of the Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link Woodlands North station. It will operate from Woodlands Temporary Bus Interchange, connecting residents to Woodlands North, Woodlands South, and Admiralty MRT stations.
Meanwhile, service 873/873M will connect Tengah to Bukit Gombak, Hillview, and Hume MRT station, while service 874 will connect Tengah to Choa Chu Kang.
Bus services enhanced
Three existing bus services, city direct service 674, service 381, and service 861, will also be enhanced.
LTA said that additional capacity will be introduced for the city service and service 861, thereby reducing waiting.
As part of efforts to mitigate the delay of Jurong Regional Line's (JRL) completion, JRL buses will be introduced from the second half of 2027.
These buses will broadly follow the route of Jurong Regional Line, the transport minister said.
"So commuters will enjoy the JRL’s connectivity, on the original timeline – first by bus, later by train when the JRL is up and running," he pointed out.
The first stage of JRL is expected to open around the middle of 2028.
"When these services start, they will be a game changer for transport connectivity for the West, and with the rest of Singapore," Siow added.

新增和升级的巴士服务
根据公交连接增强计划 (BCEP) 将推出的三条新公交线路分别是 968 路、873 路和 874 路。
陆路交通管理局表示，968路公交车将为快速交通系统（RTS）兀兰北站的开通提供支持。该线路将从兀兰临时巴士转换站发车，连接兀兰北站、兀兰南站和海军部地铁站。
与此同时，873/873M 服务将连接登加 (Tengah) 至武吉甘巴 (Bukit Gombak)、山景 (Hillview) 和休姆 (Hume) 地铁站，而 874 号服务将连接登加 (Tengah) 至蔡厝港 (Choa Chu Kang)。
公交服务增强
现有的三条公交线路，即直达市区的 674 路、381 路和 861 路，也将得到加强。
陆路交通管理局表示，将增加城市公交和861路公交车的运力，从而减少乘客的等待时间。
为缓解裕廊区域线 (JRL) 竣工延误，JRL 巴士将于 2027 年下半年投入运营。
交通部长表示，这些巴士将大致沿着裕廊区域线的路线行驶。
他指出：“因此，通勤者将按照原计划享受到 JRL 的交通连接——先是乘坐公共汽车，等 JRL 投入运营后再乘坐火车。”
JRL一期工程预计将于2028年中期左右开放。
“这些服务一旦开通，将彻底改变新加坡西部地区以及新加坡其他地区的交通连接，”萧先生补充道。
