Haze update Sept 21: Showers over Singapore keep air quality moderate, 24-hour PSI forecast moderate to low-unhealthy

Air quality in Singapore remained in the moderate range on Monday (Sept 21) as moderate to heavy thundery showers fell across Singapore in the afternoon.

At 6pm, the 24-hour Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) is between 66 and 81 — in the moderate range — with the highest PSI of 81 recorded in central Singapore.

Meanwhile, one-hour PM2.5 is in the normal band across all five regions in Singapore.

In its daily haze update on Monday evening, the National Environment Agency (NEA) said it expects the 24-hour PSI forecast to be in the moderate to low-unhealthy range.

The agency stated that the risk of smoke haze affecting Singapore remains due to the prevailing south-easterly winds.

Meanwhile, moderate to dense smoke plumes continue to be observed from fires in Kalimantan and southern Sumatra during its weather satellite's pass at 1.49pm.

Data from the Asean Specialised Meteorological Centre shows that there were 699 hotspots in Kalimantan and 33 in Sumatra on Sept 20.

Members of the public should note that the health impact of haze is dependent on one’s health status, the PSI level, and the length and intensity of outdoor activity.

东盟专业气象中心的数据显示，9月20日，加里曼丹有699个热点，苏门答腊有33个热点。
