Susy Aponte, a journalist and candidate for regional governor of northern Peru’s Áncash, was shot and killed while talking to reporters at a campaign event.

In a video posted to a Colombian hotel’s social media account on Sunday, a woman asks for help to rescue around 20 guests from wildfires. All guests were later evacuated primarily by volunteers and hotel team members, according to a statement the hotel posted on Instagram. A post on X by the Interior Minister of Colombia credits the rescues to firefighters and the Civil Defense.
