Melaka'sPeranakan community is one of the oldest in the country, preceded only by the Chetties in Melaka (a community borne out of the intermarriage between Indian traders and local women).
The Melaka Peranakan (the word means “child of the land”) Chinese community traces its roots as far back as the 15th century when Chinese traders arrived in Melaka, liked what they saw and ended up staying and marrying local women.
