At 7pm, the 24-hour Pollutant Standard Index (PSI) ranged between 58 to 67 — in the moderate range — with western Singapore recording the highest reading of 67.
Meanwhile, one-hour PM2.5 is in the normal band for all regions, except in western Singapore, which had a concentration reading on 58 — in the elevated band.
In its daily haze situation update on Wednesday evening, the National Environment Agency (NEA) said the 24-hour PSI forecast for Singapore is expected to be in the moderate to low-unhealthy range.
It noted that dry conditions have persisted over southern Sumatra and parts of Kalimantan, with moderate to dense smoke plumes observed from fires in those areas.
Data from the ASEAN Specialised Meteorological Centre show that the number of hotspots in Kalimantan rose to 304 on Sept 22, up from the 198 a day earlier.
NEA said that while dry conditions are forecast over south-eastern Sumatra and other parts of Kalimantan on Thursday, showers are expected over Singapore and parts of its surround region.
This, it said, could lower the risk of smoke haze to Singapore.
Members of the public should note that the health impact of haze is dependent on one’s health status, the PSI level, and the length and intensity of outdoor activity.
They may refer to the one-hour PM2.5 concentration reading if intending to participate in immediate outdoor activities.
