Claims of dog meat sales in Singapore surface online; authorities urged to investigate

A Facebook (FB) post alleging that dog meat is being sold in Singapore has surfaced online, prompting calls for the authorities to investigate.

The FB post, which appears to have been shared in a Facebook group of Vietnamese people living in Singapore, claimed that several Vietnamese individuals were involved in the sale of dog meat.

The post was shared on Wednesday (Sept 23).

According to the post, the original author allegedly obtained a contact number linked to one of the purported sellers and urged others to report the matter to the police and relevant authorities.

The post also claimed that several people were involved in the alleged sales, while some commenters who purportedly bought the meat described it as "delicious".

It was not immediately clear from the post when or where the alleged sales took place.

AsiaOne has not independently verified the allegations either.

AsiaOne has contacted the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) for more information.

The Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority (AVA), SFA's predecessor, previously stated that the sale of dog meat is not permitted in Singapore.

Earlier this week, AsiaOne reported that the SFA was investigating allegations involving the illegal sale of raw meat in a public space .

SFA said enforcement action would be taken against those caught selling food products in public spaces without a valid licence.

新加坡食品局（SFA）的前身——农粮兽医局（AVA）此前曾表示，在新加坡禁止销售狗肉。

本周早些时候，AsiaOne报道称，新加坡食品局正在调查有关在公共场所非法出售生肉的指控。

新加坡食品局表示，将对那些在公共场所无有效许可证售卖食品的人采取执法行动。
