Sections of expressways across Korea were congested Thursday as people headed to their hometowns for family reunions on the first day of the Chuseok holiday period.

This year's holiday period marking the fall harvest runs from Thursday to Sunday. Traditionally, Koreans return to their hometowns during Chuseok to reunite with family members and pay respects at their ancestors' graves.

As of 2 p.m., travel time from Seoul to Busan was estimated at six hours and 40 minutes, five hours and 40 minutes to Daegu, five hours and 30 minutes to Gwangju, and three hours and 10 minutes to Daejeon, the Korea Expressway Corp. (KEC) said.

Travel time to Seoul was estimated to take five hours from Busan, four hours from Daegu, three hours and 20 minutes from Gwangju, and two hours and 10 minutes from Daejeon, according to the KEC.

An estimated 6.16 million vehicles were expected to be on the road nationwide Thursday, including about 510,000 cars departing the greater Seoul area and 380,000 vehicles heading toward the capital from other regions.

今年的秋收节假期从周四持续到周日。按照传统，韩国人在中秋节期间会返回家乡与家人团聚，并祭拜祖先的坟墓。

韩国高速公路公司（KEC）表示，截至下午 2 点，从首尔到釜山的预计旅行时间为 6 小时 40 分钟，到大邱为 5 小时 40 分钟，到光州为 5 小时 30 分钟，到大田为 3 小时 10 分钟。

据韩国经济委员会（KEC）估计，从釜山到首尔的旅行时间约为 5 小时，从大邱到首尔的旅行时间约为 4 小时，从光州到首尔的旅行时间约为 3 小时 20 分钟，从大田到首尔的旅行时间约为 2 小时 10 分钟。

预计周四全国将有约 616 万辆汽车上路，其中包括约 51 万辆离开首尔都市圈的汽车和 38 万辆从其他地区前往首都的汽车。
