MACC, FBI step up cooperation to tackle corruption, cross-border crime, says chief commissioner

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the FBI are enhancing cooperation through experience exchange and capacity-building in enforcement.

The meeting focused on operational issues and explored future cooperation opportunities in addressing cross-border crime challenges.

PUTRAJAYA, Sept 24 — The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) are reinforcing their cooperation through the exchange of experience and expertise, as well as capacity-building in enforcement.

MACC Chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman said this was among the matters discussed during a courtesy visit by an FBI delegation led by Law Enforcement Attaché Varinder Singh to the MACC headquarters here today.

“Strategic cooperation with the FBI is an important platform for strengthening enforcement capabilities through the sharing of experience, expertise, and best practices, besides benefiting the capacity-building of MACC officers,” he said in a statement today.

Abd Halim said the nearly hour-long meeting focused on operational issues, including corruption linked to fraudulent activities and coordination between enforcement agencies in addressing cross-border crime challenges.

He said the visit also opened up opportunities for both sides to explore new areas of cooperation that could be strengthened in the future.

“The opportunity to participate in various programmes and training conducted by the FBI is invaluable,” he said.

Also present were MACC senior directors Datuk Y.S. Karunanithy (Special Operations Division), Datuk Saiful Ezral Arifin (Intelligence Division), and director Datuk Saiful Hazmi Mohd Saad (Legal and Prosecution Division), as well as FBI Assistant Law Enforcement Attaché Cody Kirk. — Bernama

马来西亚反贪污委员会首席专员拿督斯里阿卜杜勒·哈利姆·阿曼表示，这是美国联邦调查局代表团今天在执法专员瓦林德·辛格的陪同下对反贪污委员会总部进行礼节性访问期间讨论的事项之一。

“与美国联邦调查局的战略合作是一个重要的平台，可以通过分享经验、专业知识和最佳实践来加强执法能力，同时也有利于提高反贪污委员会官员的能力建设，”他今天在一份声明中说。

阿卜杜勒·哈利姆表示，这场持续近一个小时的会议重点讨论了行动问题，包括与欺诈活动有关的腐败以及执法机构在应对跨境犯罪挑战方面的协调。

他表示，此次访问也为双方探索未来可以加强的新合作领域提供了机会。
