Caught red-handed: Man arrested for alleged loanshark harassment in Bukit Panjang after returning to cause further damage

A 32-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday (Sept 23) for his alleged involvement in a case of loanshark harassment in Bukit Panjang.

Police said on Thursday night that they were alerted to the case at a residential unit on Segar Road at about 3.55pm.

The wall outside the flat and a electrical riser door next to the unit were sprayed with black spray and a debtor's note was affixed to the door.

A photograph of the alleged crime scene shared by the police shows "O$P$" sprayed on the wall and the riser's door.

Officers from Jurong Police Division detained and arrested the man when he allegedly returned to the scene to cause further damage by spraying another set of loanshark-related graffiti on the other side of the wall.

He will be charged in court on Friday with the offence of loanshark harassment.

If found guilty of the said offence, he could be fined up to $50,000, jailed up to five years, and receive up to six strokes of the cane.

The police warned would-be perpetrators that they have zero tolerance for loanshark harassment activities.

"Those who deliberately vandalise properties, cause annoyance and disrupt public safety, peace and security, will be dealt with severely in accordance with the law."

They also advised members of the public to stay away from loansharks and not work with or assist them in any way.

裕廊警署的警员拘留并逮捕了这名男子，据称他返回现场，在墙的另一侧喷涂了另一组与高利贷有关的涂鸦，造成了进一步的破坏。

他将于周五在法庭上被控犯有骚扰高利贷罪。

如果被判犯有上述罪行，他可能被处以最高 5 万美元的罚款、最高五年的监禁，以及最高六下鞭刑。

警方警告潜在的犯罪分子，他们对高利贷骚扰活动零容忍。

“那些故意破坏财物、扰乱公共秩序、危害公共安全、和平与稳定的人，将依法受到严厉惩处。”

他们还建议公众远离高利贷者，不要以任何方式与他们合作或协助他们。
