Ministry of Agriculture & Cooperative is the pot of Gold for Kla Tham party

Atthakorn Sirilatthayakorn, a Chachoengsao MP and spokesperson for the Kla tham Party, addressed reports suggesting the party might join the government alongside the Bhumjai Thai Party and was eying to secure the Agriculture and Cooperatives ministerial portfolio.

He stated that Thammanat Prompow, the Kla tham Party leader, had just returned from Japan on September 23 and had not yet discussed joining the government; however, discussions had taken place regarding leaving the opposition bloc due to the restructuring of the opposition whip.

Regarding a potential meeting to brief party members, a meeting is scheduled for September 29, but it is a routine weekly gathering, and it remains unclear whether the party’s status will be addressed. The department stated that from September 25 to 27, heavy rain is expected in many areas—with isolated very heavy rainfall—across the North, the lower Northeast, the Central region (including Bangkok and its vicinity), the East, and the South.

This weather pattern is driven by a strong low-pressure area currently over the East, which is moving to cover the lower Northeast and Central regions (including Bangkok and its vicinity) along the monsoon trough extending across upper Thailand. Simultaneously, the southwest monsoon prevailing over the Andaman Sea, the South, and the Gulf of Thailand is intensifying. The department noted that the next announcement will be issued on September 25 at 5:00 PM.

Meanwhile the weather page “T’ Lom Fa Agat” has urged the TMD to extend its weather warnings beyond September 27, predicting extremely heavy rainfall for western Central and Northern Thailand on September 28–29. The page highlighted high-risk areas, particularly Kanchanaburi, Tak, Chiang Mai, Mae Hong Son, Lamphun, and Lampang, advising the public to prepare for severe weather conditions.

Issuing a 48-hour countdown, the page warned that Upper Thailand faces a high risk of major flooding. The threat initially affects the Eastern region, Lower Isan, and the Central region from September 24–27, before shifting toward upper and lower western parts of the Northern region on September 28–29, 2026.

Dr. Seree Supratid, Director of the Climate Change and Disaster Center at Rangsit University said continuous heavy rainfall is driven by the interaction between an active monsoon trough and a low-pressure cell moving in from Cambodia. Instead of brief downpours, the weather pattern consists of prolonged, fluctuating heavy and light rain persisting day and night across affected regions.

The rain system initially targets the Eastern region including Sa Kaeo, Prachin Buri, Chon Buri, Rayong, Chanthaburi, Trat and Lower Isan such as Buri Ram as it moves toward Nakhon Ratchasima. For Bangkok and its surrounding provinces, the rain heads in from the east before spreading westward, with intense, localized rainfall forecasted for September 26–27.

According to marine environmental expert Asst. Prof. Dr. Thon Thamrongnawasawat, Thailand has not yet experienced a single tropical storm this year, despite historical data showing September and October as peak storm months. While the monsoon trough has brought heavy, localized downpours due to record-high atmospheric vapor—amplified by El Niño and global warming—these events trigger only quick-onset flash floods in urban or flood-prone areas. This localized flooding is fundamentally different from the massive, widespread provincial inundation seen during the severe floods of 2011.

Dr. Thon emphasized that a 2011-scale megaflood is virtually impossible this year. The 2011 disaster was caused by an early La Niña, rainfall 35% above average, and five direct storm hits, resulting in 5.7 million rai flooded by August. In contrast, GISTDA satellite data indicates that less than 400,000 rai were flooded in August of this year, confirming that current hydrological conditions pose a significantly lower risk.

Bhumjai Thai party jumps to action in Ayutthaya

Bhumjai Thai party, which has managed to be targeted by the locals in Ayutthaya and Ang Thong provinces for inaction over the severe flooding, jumped to action.

Bhumjai Thai MP Padith Sangkhajai raised an urgent query regarding unexpected severe flooding in Ayutthaya, where Chao Phraya Dam discharges submerged riverbank homes up to one meter deep.

To relieve the downstream pressure, Deputy Prime Minister Ekniti Nitithanprapas convened an urgent meeting to adopt a lateral water diversion strategy. The Royal Irrigation Department is now directing floodwaters above the dam into side canals and the Tha Chin River, while utilizing post-harvest retention basins—such as Bang Ban, Pa Mok, and Chao Chet—to safeguard vulnerable communities in Ayutthaya.

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul told executives from over 20 U.S. companies in New York that his administration aims to elevate Thailand into the world’s top 20 most competitive economies by 2030, rising from its current 26th position in the 2026 IMD World Competitiveness Ranking.

To position the country as an ideal investment hub and gateway to ASEAN, he highlighted US$43.6 billion in investment-promotion applications received in the first half of 2026. He stated that U.S.–Thailand trade negotiations are nearing completion while promoting the “Thailand FastPass” initiative to streamline business approvals. Anutin also witnessed the signing of a cooperation agreement between the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) and the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and participated in the “Opening Bell” ceremony. Yesterday Anutin met with Ruth Porat, President and CIO of Alphabet and Google, at Google’s Pier 57 office in New York City. He expressed gratitude for Google’s $1 billion (approx. THB 36 billion) investment in Thailand, which covers a new data center in Chonburi and a Google Cloud Region in Bangkok.

In return, the Thai government committed to facilitating project timelines and co-developing green standards for data center operations nationwide.

Google pledged to act as a strategic partner by establishing an Open Data institute to upskill local talent, support startups, and create broader economic opportunities for Thai citizens.

Narit Therdsteerasukdi, Secretary General of the Thailand Board of Investment (BOI), announced that German semiconductor giant Infineon Technologies AG has selected Thailand for its new advanced power module packaging facility in Samut Prakan. Serving as Infineon’s third power module plant globally after Germany and China, the smart, highly automated factory is scheduled to officially launch operations on October 1, 2026.

Once fully expanded, the project is projected to create over 5,000 high-skilled local jobs, providing key components for electric vehicles, AI infrastructure, data centers, energy storage, and clean energy devices.

“Thai Helps Thai Plus” 60/40 scheme opens for registration

Thailand’s Cabinet approved an expanded Thai Helps Thai Plus (60/40) scheme. Eligible citizens can confirm participation through the Pao Tang app from October 1–15, 2026, while eligible merchants can register via the Tang Rat app until November 30. The scheme runs October 1–November 30.

The government covers 60% of eligible purchases, with citizens paying 40%, up to ฿200 per person per day and ฿1,000 total. The benefit applies at participating shops and eligible food-delivery restaurants; delivery fees are excluded.

Today Thailand’s Trade Policy and Strategy Office (TPSO) under the Ministry of Commerce is scheduled to release export statistics for August and the first eight months of 2026 via Facebook Live.

In July 2026, exports surged 21.6% year-on-year to $34,789.1 million—marking 25 consecutive months of growth and the second-highest monthly total on record, behind March 2026 ($35,157.1 million). For the first seven months of 2026 (Jan–Jul), total exports grew 18.2% to $231,531 million. The export outlook for the remainder of 2026 remains favorable, bolstered by sustained global demand for AI-related tech products, though risks persist from tensions in the Strait of Hormuz and pending decisions on U.S. import tariffs. To achieve the Ministry of Commerce’s full-year growth target of 8–11%, Thailand needs to maintain an average export value of $31,947.3 million per month over the remaining five months of the year.

Vinit Visessuvanapoom, Director-General of the Fiscal Policy Office and Chairman of the Student Loan Fund (SLF) board, announced following a meeting with Finance Minister Ekniti Nitithanprapas that the board approved expanding the loan quota by 14,004 students.

This expansion ensures coverage for all eligible applicants, bringing the total number of student loan recipients this year to a record high of 790,000. To fund this, the Ministry of Finance will urgently request an additional 1.2 billion baht from the 2026 central budget by the end of September, pending Cabinet approval.

The Central Administrative Court is scheduled to hold a hearing today at 11:00 AM and deliver its verdict at 3:00 PM regarding the lawsuit filed by NBTC Chairman Dr. Sarana Boonbaichaiyapruck against the NBTC Selection Committee. On September 24, 2026, Bangkok Expressway and Metro (BEM) shares dropped 5.04% to 6.60 baht following a massive Big Lot transaction of 200 million shares worth 1.3 billion baht at an average price of 6.50 baht.
