Tok Mat: Malaysia backs mechanism to document and expose Israeli violations at Jerusalem holy sites

Malaysia supports a mechanism to report Israel's violations in Jerusalem and holds Israel accountable, according to Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.

Mohamad affirmed East Jerusalem as part of Palestinian territory and condemned any attempt to alter its identity or legal status.

Malaysia denounces escalating violations at Al-Aqsa Mosque and calls for collective action against Israel's actions in Palestine.

NEW YORK, Sept 26 — Malaysia fully supports the establishment of a sustainable, institutional and operational mechanism, including a dedicated media platform, to document and expose Israel’s violations against the Holy Sites and worshippers in Jerusalem, Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said.

He said Israel must be held accountable for its crimes and that its gross violations must not be ignored or normalised through repetition.

Mohamad said this in his intervention at the Joint Ministerial Meeting between the League of Arab States and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Jerusalem at the United Nations headquarters here yesterday.

He said Malaysia continued to hold the view that Jerusalem must remain at the very heart of the Ummah’s collective struggle and action.

As reaffirmed in the Amman Ministerial Statement of Aug 5, he said East Jerusalem was an integral part of the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT) and the capital of the State of Palestine, consistent with the International Court of Justice’s (ICJ) Advisory Opinion of July 19, 2024.

“Importantly, the same Advisory Opinion reaffirms the illegality of Israel’s occupation of the OPT including East Jerusalem,” he said.

Mohamad stressed that Israel had no sovereignty over East Jerusalem.

“Any attempt to alter its Arab, Islamic and Christian identity or its legal and demographic character was unlawful and must be unequivocally rejected,” he stressed further.

Malaysia strongly condemned the escalating violations at Al-Aqsa Mosque/Al-Haram Al-Sharif, including repeated incursions by extremist settlers and Israeli officials, restrictions on worshippers and persistent attempts to alter the historic and legal status quo.

“These provocations risk igniting a wider religious conflict with grave consequences for regional and international peace and security,” he said.

Malaysia, Mohamad said, reaffirmed its unwavering support for the historical Hashemite Custodianship over the Islamic and Christian Holy Sites in Jerusalem, as well as all efforts to protect the rights, resilience and presence of the Palestinian people in their city.

The foreign minister said the Holy City of Jerusalem (Al-Quds Al-Sharif) could not be truly protected through mere statements of concern or expressions of condemnation, but required “sustained coordination, collective resolve and decisive action.”

Mohamad said the time has come for “our collective voice to be matched by collective action.”

“We must therefore use all necessary means to fight and end the crimes committed by Israel on Palestinians. While we continue to demand decisive actions by the UN Security Council, we can and must also take our own actions, individually and as a group.

“We commend those that have suspended bilateral, trade and social relations with Israel, and welcome sanctions imposed on certain extremist Israeli Ministers, which should be extended to other Israeli leaders who incite hatred, dehumanise Palestinians and provoke violence.”

Malaysia, Mohamad said, reiterates “our call on all Member States to halt the provision of arms and financial support to Israel, so as not to become complicit in its illegal war and occupation.”

“Once again, Malaysia reiterates its unwavering commitment to defending the Holy City of Jerusalem (Al-Quds Al-Sharif) and the Palestinian cause.

“We reaffirm our solidarity with the Palestinian people and our steadfast support for their right to self-determination and the realisation of an independent State of Palestine based on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.”

马来西亚外交部长拿督斯里穆罕默德·哈山表示，马来西亚支持建立举报以色列在耶路撒冷侵犯人权行为的机制，并追究以色列的责任。

穆罕默德重申东耶路撒冷是巴勒斯坦领土的一部分，并谴责任何改变其身份或法律地位的企图。

穆罕默德表示，马来西亚重申其坚定不移地支持哈希姆家族对耶路撒冷伊斯兰教和基督教圣地的历史性监护权，以及为保护巴勒斯坦人民在其城市中的权利、韧性和存在所做的一切努力。

外交部长表示，仅靠表达关切或谴责并不能真正保护圣城耶路撒冷（圣城），而是需要“持续的协调、集体的决心和果断的行动”。

穆罕默德表示，现在是时候“让我们的集体声音与集体行动相匹配了”。

“因此，我们必须采取一切必要手段，打击并制止以色列对巴勒斯坦人犯下的罪行。在我们继续要求联合国安理会采取果断行动的同时，我们也可以而且必须采取我们自己的行动，无论是个人行动还是集体行动。”

“我们赞扬那些暂停与以色列双边关系、贸易关系和社会关系的国家，并欢迎对某些以色列极端主义部长实施制裁，这种制裁应该扩大到其他煽动仇恨、将巴勒斯坦人非人化和挑起暴力的以色列领导人。”

穆罕默德表示，马来西亚重申“我们呼吁所有成员国停止向以色列提供武器和财政支持，以免成为其非法战争和占领的帮凶”。

“马来西亚再次重申其对捍卫圣城耶路撒冷（圣城）和巴勒斯坦事业的坚定承诺。

“我们重申与巴勒斯坦人民的团结，坚定支持他们享有自决权，并支持建立一个以1967年以前的边界为基础、以东耶路撒冷为首都的独立巴勒斯坦国。”
